So, how did the new translation go down at your parish?

It has been a very long time since I have posted anything on CAF and this seems to be the great thread to come back on CAF.

The Mass I went to at my parish did an alright job for their first time saying all the new changes all at once (except for the Gloria). Not many of us in the parish were negative about the changes at all. I for one noticed that more of the younger of us (including my fiance and I) were actually excited about the changes (it helped that our parish had lectures and books handy for us to learn about the changes and why there were going to be changing almost a year ago).

I am baby Catholic (will be three years old in the Church next year) and for me I could not understand why everyone was getting upset over this change. (not at my parish, but in the media and social media) I find the changes make the Mass more alive and not only that, but guess what YOU have to ACKNOWLEDGE what you are saying. I think one of the greatest things I loved was when I was told the Creed we say “I believe” and not “We believe” I was so happy about that.

There are going to be some who will hate the new changes, but give it time, allow yourself to soak in the beauty of the Mass with the better translation. People it took ten years to put this together, it was not just a recent thing. So, please instead of being so negative about it, look at the changes as a way of fully understanding the Church teachings and Scripture.

God Bless,
Nikita

You’re posts are very disquieting. What started out as a simple discussion about the experiences that people have had with the new translation of the missal seems to have turned into an entire thread about your jurisdiction over the clergy, how you evaluate the clergy, how you believe that the clergy must do things, what priests you trust and don’t trust, how priests should be handled if they fail or make mistakes, why others are wrong to trust or give a priest the benefit of the doubt. In other words, this entire thread has turned it one long blog about your authority to scrutinize and evaluate priests as if you were their bishop or their major superior.

That’s very unfortunate. Not only have you set yourself up as one with the wisdom and authority of bishops and major superiors, but you have been here pontificating for three days as if this were your blog and you’re going to teach everyone on this thread how the clergy should be handled. If a bishop or a religious superior enters the thread, he may as well sit down and take notes, because you’ve got the answers and you have the full understanding of liturgical law and how to discipline the clergy and keep the laity on track while you’re at it.

Give us a break. This is a simple chat about what happened in your church this weekend. It’s supposed to be a light thread, not your personal manual on how to evaluate, discipline and correct the clergy. If you want to write such a manual and submit it to a few bishops and religious superiors, I’ll give you some addresses to send it and you can tell those folks how to manage their men. If you’re not going to write a “How To Evaluate and Manage Priests For Dummies” book, then chill out.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂
This is a very sarcastic and mean post. I was really shocked. To be honest, I didn’t even notice anything unusually bad about the posts that angered the Franciscan Brother/priest(?). The poster was just giving opinions about anonymous situations.

Excuse me if I’m overstepping my bounds, Brother/Father, but your posts have been so exceedingly long that I just usually skip over them , as it seemed to me that YOU were using CAF as your own blog!
