I was thinking today after I had gone to confession about some stuff and wanted to hear what some of you had to say. The confessional is always nice because we can witness first hand Gods grace and mercy alive and receive a new fresh slate from this beautiful sacrament. the Priest is always so nice and always reminds me how merciful God is. He always articulates how we are forgiven every single sin of our life in this sacrament and not to worry about the past but to focus on Gods love and never ending mercy. I think that is beautiful and it is so wonderful and saving.

It got me to thinking about how easy it is though. I mean I go to confession because I feel bad about hurting God and all who are affected by my sins. That doesn’t take work for me and I don’t know but from life it seems that anything worthwhile you must work hard for and forgiveness is just that but we get it so easily in this sacrament. It got me thinking about how hard it was for even great biblical figures to gain Gods favor. Moses was not allowed in the promise land because God told him he couldn’t enter. then I see wow thats moses God performed many great miracles through him God used Moses as a tool for great great things and still moses did not have Gods favor to enter the promise land. now I compare myself to that. God doesn’t use me for Great miracles like splitting the red sea or making water spring from a rock, or to free a nation of thousands from slavery with nothing more than a staff and a word. Moses probably lived a much more sin free and virtuous life than I have already as well( this I don’t know but I would think someone who had the power of God running in them quite a bit would seem to be special) so what’s that say for me if Moses had all that and still hadn’t gained Gods favor how can I ever do that. It just seems like we are able to gain this favor so easily. It just seems like God is so differently depicted now than then which doesn’t make sense cause God is unchanging. I get mixed messages.

Don’t get me wrong or anything it’s just something I was thinking maybe some can enlighten me. I hope you see what I am pointing out even though it might be kind of weird thanks for your thoughts.

God bless.

Yes, but you have two things that Moses didn’t have…
  1. You have Jesus Christ as Savior
  2. You have the Church and her sacraments to help you come closer and closer to God.
God bless you.

To put it another way - not only do you have Christ and the Sacraments, but through the Sacrament of Holy Communion you have Christ’s own presence within you. The father looks at you and sees you as a member of Christ, absorbed into His own sacred body by your reception of Him into you in Communion. Moses had nothing like that.

That was the Penance that Moses was given for his sin He was to not enter into the Promised Land. Just as the priest give penance to you for your sins, this was his. It has nothing to do with gaining favor. For Mose was forgiven his sin.

It is not easy for some to go to Confession. For many, Confession itself is tougher than any penance that might be dished out.

Personally, it is never easy to go, but it is ALWAYS incredibly liberating. 👍
