Took me like ten minutes just to explain the issue to him. He explained to me Mormonism’s view of the Trinity, what happens at their Confirmation, how the Holy Ghost shows people what’s true - but it took me awhile to get a straight answer.
I figured it’d be an interesting question to ask because Mormonism is a variant of Arianism, and the Filioque was added in Spain to combat a resurgence of that particular heresy.
But basically, the answer I got was that because Heavenly Father created the Holy Ghost, and the Savior had no part in that creation, the Holy Ghost proceeds from the Father alone.
I guess that the Filioque does fight Arianism.
