Do I have to be baptized catholic to receive the Holy Spirit, or is it a good idea to be baptized catholic too to make sure. I was baptized and never went back to church. I know only very basic christainity.

Catholics believe baptism leaves an indelible mark on your soul. Once you’ve been baptized, you are baptized forever.

Rather than ask about being baptized again it would be better to learn more about what it means to be a Christian.

You can also go through RCIA to be accepted into the Catholic Church.

Do you have a Bible? The Catholic Answers Bible would be good for you. Start reading the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Your church’s RCIA classes might be on a summer break depending on where you are, so inquire at your church. Reading the Bible, the Catechism, and some good books would be a good place to start. Are you able to pick up any other books, like Patrick Madrid’s Why Be Catholic or Trent Horn’s Why We’re Catholic? Also look around the Catholic Answers main site for informative articles.
ETA: Catholicism For Dummies is also good for beginners; don’t be off-put by the title…it’s a whole series of informative books.

If you were baptized into a non-Catholic Christian church, you’d not be baptized again if you were to join the Catholic Church, unless there is reason to doubt the baptism’s validity (this would be investigated – but I believe most Christian denominations typically baptize in the manner recognized as valid by the Catholic Church). Baptism imparts an indelible character on the soul and cannot be repeated.

That said, upon reception into the Catholic faith one would assuredly receive the Holy Spirit and His gifts. Re-baptism is not necessary and indeed is not permitted anyway.

There will not be a difference in this respect between a person who was received into the Catholic Church thus completing his/her baptism, and a person who has been a Catholic since baptism as an infant.

“HAVE TO?” NO,

But being a Baptized Catholic as it IS the one true Church desired and founded by Jesus Christ Personally; would be a source of greater graces when the Priest and the parents /God-Parents are fervent believers and practitioners of the RCC faith.

Valid CHRISTIAN Baptism; rightly administered; with water and in the names of the Blessed Trinity {Jn 3:5 & Mt 28:18} CAN be done only one time.
