Believe it not! The Book of Mormon is true, the videos prove nothing. They are worthless anit-Mormon propaganda. Read it, study it carefuylly, pray about it with sincerity, and the Lord will reveal the truth of it to you by the Holy Ghost.

NO HE WON’T, Zerinus. The Holy Spirit will not testify to a lie!

I’ve got a Mormon friend, and when I told him about this, he told be that my name is now stored in some database and the Mormons will never leave me alone now.
Maybe your Mormon friend enjoys pulling your leg.

I am a 40 year old Catholic woman, my husband was Catholic–he died last year. My four children have gone all their lives to Catholic schools, we go to church, belong to the local parish, etc. When my husband died, our church called us and sent a card. The LDS church bishop came to offer to pay our rent. They brought food to us every night for TWO months. All the women in their parish signed up to feed us–even though they had never met any of us previously. This all came about because one of my husband’s friends was LDS in a city we used to live in and called the church in my city here to tell them about our plight. They still come check in on me and stop by to see how we all are. They don’t make me take any lessons and have never pressured me to do anything. I have never accepted any money from them or anything else other than the casseroles the women of the Relief Society made for me but I can tell you that although I made it very clear I was Catholic and never would become LDS, they still kept visiting, still kept helping, still brought flowers and food, called us, invited our kids to different places and never pressure us. They covered both of my garage with hundreds of paper hearts on the one year anniversary of my husband’s death and they came to move a bunch of dirt for me… I can’t tell you the name of one person in my church who has come to visit me but these kind people took it upon themselves to know our names and make sure we knew theirs. I feel like a leper in my own church, a few families don’t even speak to me now–just because my husband died. All I can say about the people of the LDS church in my city is that they are wonderful, caring people. They have never judged me for anything. (They have never said an unkind word to me about being Catholic and haven’t tried to convert me other than offering me a Book of Mormon.) That is a lot more than I can say for any of the members of my own church… Very sad.

Hi There

Well, is sad to hear about your story, how you feel so disconnected for some members of your parish. I believes, those LDS pple are doing things that Christ believers should do. Althought they are of different practise, i believe they do it for we are the salt and light of the world. The basic and greatest of God’s teaching is LOVE for others!!!

That truly is sad. It doesn’t sound like any Catholic parish I’ve ever been a part of. Why would people treat you like a “leper” now “just because your husband died”? That makes no sense at all. I think there’s more to this story than meets the eye.

It is helpful to point out specific lies and then show in Mormon beliefs why it is a lie.
When dealing with a cultic mentality then circular logic is going to prompt people to make statements such as you’ve seen

Not only that. These cultists almost always approach from the rear, or from the side, never straight on from the front.

Look at the post above from auriburu. And then remember back a couple of months ago another so-called “Catholic” who was having a crisis of faith, and it turned out she was a Mormon prevaricator.

And remember JWtruth from a few weeks ago.

It seems to be a standard method of attack, that the cultists prefer the sneak attack. They hardly ever truthfully identify themselves. They “lie for the lord.” Lying just seems to be something they do naturally.

Thank you Juxtaposer for the links for those videos! I have only listened to one so far but I will be listening to the other very soon! How can they refute DNA evidence? According to science, there is no evidence of Hebrew origins in the peoples of the Americas.

zerinus, if it is true then let’s meet in Zarahemla to discuss it. Please give the exact location. To prove the Bible is true we can meet in Jerusalem. We know where it is and I have actually been there.

Hi auriburu. There is a group called FARMS, or something like that, and they have a website where they have many articles dealing with this emerging DNA evidence. Unfortunately, I am not knowledgable enough about DNA to be able to judge these articles properly, but it does seem to me that there is room for doubt. Not that I believe for a moment that the American indians came from the Hebrews. It appears that the Mormons are refining their claims. What I have read over at FARM (I hope I have that acronym right) seems to be reasonable. For instance, Zerinus is saying that the Mayan and Aztec groups were the descendents of these BoM people, but that a clear link has yet to be established. I just can’t say, because I’m not knowledgable in anthropology or archaeology. You’ll have to be your own judge. I think that Mormonism falls apart in terms of plain common sense, and that it will also fall apart in terms of science, whether it has already, or will more thoroughly in the near future.

Early on, back in the days of Joseph Smith and the successors, prior to modern technologies that have cast significant doubt on the BoM, they probably never thought that such technologies would be developed. Smith himself is said to have prophesied the end of the world 'round about 1890, which he pre-deceased by some 46 years. Joseph Smith, apart from the BoM, is the best argument against Mormonism, if you ask me. Just look at his life, his lifestyle, and the dissension within Mormonism that followed his death, and that gives the lie to his claims of being a full restoration of apostate Christianity. Today there are dozens, if not hundreds, of small breakaway Mormon sects, some practicing polygamy, some not, some following this prophet, some that. This fracturing of Mormonism proves an awful lot, if you ask me.

Well zerinus has been back to the boards but apparently believes we should all just take his/her word that the videos are all lies.

I would be interested in seeing the science that proves Native Americans are descendants of Israel. But I guess we just have to take his word for it.

Hello… I’m not much of an ‘argue-er’ (?) but, this kinda hits home with me. History… I grew up in a home without much education in religion I was baptised when I was about 12, then my mom stopped taking us to church. My younger sister and I , when I was about 14,started going with a friend to a Methodist church … eeehhhh… stopped going after about 2 years. When I was 17, I met my future husband… he was full blown Sicilian, alter boy , catholic school… the works… I knew I was home the first time I went to mass!!! My sis on the other hand never found her way to any other church.
A few months ago she told me that she had some Mormons knock at her door and she wanted to hear what they had to say :crying: Well… they sucked her in real quick !!! Now they have some lady doing our family genealogy ( which I understand they do that alot…). I mean that’s interesting and all, but how do they have my family tree, from the 1600’s in their computers in Salt Lake City ??? my familly was NEVER Mormon !!
I really won’t talk to her about it very much, because she gets mad if you question anything she does. They are always ‘stopping by her home’ and talking about being another door knocker.
I did give her a blessed green scapular and rosary , and she accepted them happily.
I pray daily for her and I am hoping for some good to come from it! Maybe somebody here will throw a prayer or two her way, I’d appreciate it!!!
I mean I was Protestant too at one time, before I knew better!!! All praise and Glory to Our Lord and Redeemer, Jesus Christ !!!

Science to prove that Amerindians are descendants of Israel? Sounds more like science fiction to me. There is not one tribe of aboriginal Americans from Canada down to the tip of Argentina that has record or can say that they where visited by Jesus Christ. You would think that if the Son of God paid your people a visit you’d remember, eh? Mormonism began in the year 1830 in New York by a self-proclaimed (false) prophet named Joseph Smith. It is a heretical religion, plain and simple.

Yeah, you would think they remembered, but apparently Joseph Smith had to “remind” everyone.

But I guess we all need to just take his word for it since he has not chosen to come back and post his information for us, even though he has visited the forums.

I am constantly amazed at those who are supposed to witness the truth to others, yet refuse to answer direct questions and point out specifically allegations, like that video.

It is pretty simple. Either the Mormon Church doesn’t teach that Native Americans are decended from Israelites (hence the video is a lie), or now that science has advanced to the point of being able to prove such a claim, they have done so.

I think you’ve got the right attitude, Madeleine. There are worse things than being Mormon. They aren’t robbing banks or smoking dope, and they are hard workers. They mostly follow a very holy lifestyle, and that is worthy of praise. So it could be worse. Much worse. Besides, as you note, we are all in a process, in flux, on the way. We will pray, and expect God’s will be done.

Hi zerinus,
As a quick departure from the OP, may I ask why you refer to the Holy Spirit as the Holy Ghost?
Thanks

I am so sorry about your husband. I hope he is at peace now with Our Lord.

I believe there are good people in every religion.

It may be of help to our own faith for you to tell your parish priest exactly what the Mormons did for you during this time of grief.

He may not realise that none of his own people are doing it, and it may start your own parish doing something like this.

I hope you and your children are getting on well these days. God bless you all.

Holy Ghost,Holy Spirit same same. Holy Ghost is the archaic term.

Simple answer really… Mormons still use the KJV as their bible, so they use Ghost instead of Spirit. either one is good, although the original word has become modernly associated with “physical manifestations of the spirit”, when it originally simply meant manifestation of the spirit, both physically and Spiritually.
