So I won't enter Heaven because ---, or I will because Jesus forgave me?

There are so many things in the Bible from Jesus about who will not make it into heaven, because of whaever reason. Then, the prophesies of Catholic saints also state that so many will be lost. It makes me paranoid about being among the lost because I certainly am a sinner, as is everyone. I guess I’m just confused as to so many, many people not making it into Heaven, but Jesus still offering forgiveness and allowing the very small amount in.

We know that Jesus will forgive you if you ask with a humble and contrite heart before His priest in the sacrament of reconciliation. That way you can be sure to reach Heaven. The point is, that sins are not automatically forgiven just because Jesus died on the cross. That would be like saying that He forgives all our sins in advance, so it wouldn’t matter what we did, removing all personal accountability. You need to ask for forgiveness, and only God Himself either directly or through a priest, can grant that.

Christ came to save sinners. He calls us to repentance. I think the “many” are those people who have heard God’s Word but have refused it and do not repent.

We can make strong efforts not to sin, but chances are we will continue to sin. We must continue to shape our conscience and regularly examine our behavior, and have confidence in our Savior and His assistance to keep us from sin.

Go to confession regularly, and remember that you need His assistance.

“I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin”

If you are a faithful Catholic not in a state of mortal sin, you can be assured you will die in God’s friendship, and will ultimately get to heaven.
