And I’m not really sure how to survive, to be honest! Everything I could do socially is shut down for Christmas, and people are all running off to visit family. No help for getting to church either, so I’m apparently not going to be able to attend Mass for the next month. The most real life contact with other people I’m going to be getting is grocery shopping! And I’m not seeing any way to change that; even if there was something I could do reliably on the limited bus schedule out here I can’t afford to be spending $5 a day on fare.

Any advice on staying sane? I am not a very good introvert, and all the alone time is making me think about everything nervewracking at once.

Have you called the parish to see if they have/know of anyone who would be able to assist with transportation?

Connect and talk with people on the internet! Such as this site. 🙂

Can you tie your grocery trips to a visit to the library? You can catch up on some reading. If you have a TV and DVD player (or one on your computer), you can borrow movies or even TV show seasons from the library, too.

This is usually a good time of the year to deep clean - clear out cabinets, move appliances and clean behind them, etc.

I know finances are tight, but you might consider figuring out how much you would need to buy a car, and/or learning how to drive. That would give you a lot of independence.

Do you live in an apartment building? One year when I was stuck at college over Easter break those of us who were still in the dorms had dinner together. There might be others around who aren’t leaving who might like some kind of get-together.

Yes, this. Our parish has two different services it provides. One is for transportation assistance to Mass, doctors appt, or grocery store from volunteers in our parish and the other is a phone group that calls and checks on you or just to talk and visit with you.

I do have some experience of what your going through ,
A long time ago though, lived in a very isolated area, drove me nuts as well…
Best you can do is spend time on here chatting to people,
You can PM. Even myself for a chat,
Spend time in the clubhouse, you could take up Astronomy maybe ?
