So is it impossible to argue against same-sex marriage?

I understand but for those who use this argument with animals that have tendencies to hump the same sex isn’t very reliable when they will hump near about anything
Like I said, it’s just a behavior. They aren’t doing it necessarily because they are only attracted to the same gender. The same could be said for bonobo chimpanzees who have been observed to practice more explicit acts with each other regardless of gender. The people who use the bonobos to claim that homosexuality is natural forget that they also practice incest and mate-swapping and much of the observed behaviors aren’t a result of attraction.

Nope - this stuff originates from the gay agenda groups. You are in denial.
and you hate gay people.

Actually, I don’t know that-any more than you know I’m “in denial”.

What I do know is we’re never going to agree on this issue and for the sake of bandwidth I’m going to leave you to Free Republic and the evangelical “let’s cure the gays” groups.
It’s as credible a source as any you seem to hold dear.
I have deliberately NOT cited any information from organizations that are clearly pro-homosexual rights because they are not objective. I could have posted all kinds of statistics from the Human Rights Campaign or any number of GLBT sites that list occurances of violence against gays, document speeches full of hate for gay people and those who promote living the gay lifestyle This is not the place for such things.

Nobody here hates gay people, but unlike some, we do not wish to see them confirmed in their sin.

Perhaps you have issues yourself you ought to examine.

For the nth time I love everyone, but I hate sin.

Truth with Love

not Love without Truth

not Truth without Love.

For the record - I will fight where I see sin trying to encroach on me and mine.

Thanks for the “concern” but I’ve spent 30 years examining my issues. Thankfully, I have been privileged to have wonderful Priests and therapists who have helped me to accept myself as I am and to deal with the subtle messages that gay people receive from their well meaning brethren wishing to admonish them for their sin. I’m sure that most of them don’t believe that they hate us, or are afraid of us-but the message is there every time this issue comes up. I’ve shown these threads to my counselor-a Catholic-and portions of them to my Priest. Discussions of mental illness, personality disorders and the comparisons to serial killers, alcoholics, drug addicts and even dogs are subtle messages that we are not the same as “normal” people and therefore can be treated with less dignity, with less compassion and even violence against us is ok. No other group in the Catholic church has language like that thrown at them on a regular basis.

My counselor and my Priest have recommended that I stop from reading here-at least on this topic, because they both feel that my commitment to staying in the Catholic church and obeying Church teaching is in danger-not to mention my self-esteem.

I want to believe that everyone means well, and I had hoped to help people understand that those subtle messages not only exist, but they hurt. I feel badly that I’ve been unable to do that, I blame my own inadequacies and no one else.

There have been far too many atrocities committed in the name of ‘self-esteem.’

Two words that I have come to despise, because they are irretrievably linked with selfishness and the whole ‘squishy-feely-anything-goes-as-long-as-you-have-your-self-esteem’ movement.

Truth is often unpleasant.

God bless.

The last I checked, we still lived in a country that has no established religion. No matter how strongly you believe that everyone must obey Church teachings it just isn’t true. We can, and should share our faith with others, but we cannot enshrine any of our Church laws into Civil law.
.
We can and should encourage laws that reflect our faith. There is nothing in the Constitution that forbids it. The teachings are for everyone, and they are the only way for anyone to have true joy.

Well-said. The concept of ‘true joy’ has been dragged through the mud of late.
