When the prophetess Anna “spoke about the Child”, what
did she say? She was a prophetess, yet her words are not
shared with us. Though the Holy Spirit was upon Simeon,
it does not say that he was a prophet. Why were his words
shared with us but not the words of Anna?

Also, exactly whose secret thoughts were revealed?
What were the secret thoughts that everyone now knows?

We were talking about this episode on an earlier date, and
someone said they were surprised that Mary and Joseph were
amazed by what was being said of Jesus. It really is pretty
unremarkable compared to everything that has already happened!
(angel visitations, virginal birth, star & wise men, etc)

Today is the feast of the presentation of the Lord.
Did anyone have candles blessed or a procession at mass?

So what struck you about today’s readings?:bible1:

****I too, was surprised after all that had already taken place miraculously that Mary and Joseph would be amazed? Also, the words of Simeon were to tell us that the scriptures in the old testament prophecies are being fullfilled in this child…the Messiah. I stumbled over the words of the sword piercing Mary’s own soul and read several versions to better grasp the concept…sometimes, there should be a break in sentences of scriptures when thoughts are changing midstream. Her own soul will suffer the pain of the agony her Son will go through, as His Mother. She basks in the glory of the miracle now; but there will be heartache that will bring greater glory. Then, the thoughts of many being revealed has to do with the Messiah and His Purpose? I hope I interpreted this right?

I have been grappling with the human side of Mary as being in the world, of the world, and being transformed by her spiritual growth as Jesus grew in stature and understanding. She pondered many things in her heart…her child by no means was a normal child was he?

her child by no means was a normal child was he?
No He wasn’t, but neither was she a normal child if she was
born without sin.

Are you saying that to you, the thoughts of many being revealed
means Jesus’ purpose as Messiah being revealed?

I thought it meant that Jesus who is God would know and judge the thoughts and hearts of man as Messiah and Righteous Judge…His Prophecy. Is that what that means?
