So let's talk about today's readings 2/22/09

“See, I am doing something new! … In the desert, I make a way”

Is everyone ready for lent? What does God want us to do
“in the desert”? Today’s psalm says “blessed is the one who
has regard for the lowly and the poor”. The gospel says, “Many
gathered together so that there was no longer room for them, not
even around the door, and He preached the word to them”. What
word? Jesus had so many words, which words did He say at
that point? What will happen if we gather together that way this
lent? Will we see God do something new?

Today is the feast of the Chair of St. Peter. I remember today
the miracle of God to preserve this succession all these years.
He has done this for no other Christian denomination.

Intersessory prayer. Look what can happen to someone who is “paralized” (spiritual sense)and their friends intercede for them. They carry them to get around those that are blocking the door to Christ. We help our friends who are paralized spiritually by praying and helping them get closer to our Lord.

I am struck by the opportunity that this time of year provides. Lent is a time of looking back to understand what we haven’t done so well as a people and as individuals of faith. Yet, it is also a chance to “do something new:” to cooperate with God’s grace to become a more faithful disciple.

That is where today is leading me.

This is true.
The concept of an inner circle - a place very close to God is what struck me and how we sometimes must painstakingly lift the roof to get to that special inner place. I thought about that today as I sat in the front close to the altar.
