The first reading struck me because it is worded differently in
my NAB than it is here. It says we should offer God praise
every time we acknowledge His Name. That got me thinking
about various people I have met that have a habit of saying,
“praise God” all the time. They are right, according to this
reading. Later on in the reading, it said we should always be
ready to do good and to share. Then someone in my family
wanted to use this computer. I said, “no, I’m using it right now”.
I was told “Jesus wants you to share”. Why did he say that?
Right on the day I was struck by this reading that I need to be
always ready to do good and to share. So I made him a
peanut butter english muffin to do something good. I hope that
God will take note of my listening to what struck me about
today’s readings and acting on it, so He will continue to open
my eyes to new opportunities that He presents me with. The
end of the reading prays, “Lord, turn us all into whatever is
acceptable to you”. That is often my own prayer.
In today’s gospel, Jesus got the disciples alone in a boat for a
while to rest, after they came back from preaching “2 by 2”. How I would love to be a fly on the sail of that boat! I want to know
everything that happened. I have a booklet called “living faith”
that I read every day, because the author picks out some verse
they were struck by that day and talks about it. Today they
were struck by, “come away by yourselves to a deserted place
and rest a while”. They said Jesus needed rest, so did the
asostles, so do we all. But what I noticed was that when Jesus
got there, He took pity on the crowd and changed His mind.
They were more important than His rest and He trusted God to
give Him another opportunity to rest.
