So let's talk about today's readings 4/14/09

In today’s gospel, there are two angels sitting where the body of Jesus had been.
They speak to Mary Magdalene. My question is, what was their purpose for
being there? Was it to speak to Mary, or was there some other purpose? Did
they help Jesus raise from the dead? How long did they stay after Jesus spoke
to Mary Magdalene? When Jesus first got up, what was it like? Did He neatly
roll up His face cloth and place it in the corner of the room? Did the angels have
to free Him from His burial cloths as was done for Lazarus? What did He look like
that Mary M. and the Emmaus diciples couldn’t recognize Him? Why then did the
eleven in the upper room recognize Him? Does it all have something to do with His
mysterious words to Mary M. “Stop holding on to Me, for I have not yet ascended
to the Father”?

Yesterday was the day of St. Martin I, pope and martyr. He was exiled for promoting
that Jesus is true God and true Man. My missal doesn’t tell how he died, but says
he died in exile, broken by his sufferings. Is anyone familiar with this pope/saint?

“Stop holding onto me for I have not ascended to my Father.” This expression has always puzzled me and I have heard about 10 different explanations now from different priests and none of them make any sense! Maybe the key is that He is foretelling his Ascension, just as at the Last Supper, He foretold the coming of the Holy Spirit?

Sorry, if Jesus appeared to me in human form, right here, right now, I wouldn’t let Him go either!!
