“Whether it is right in the sight of God
for us to obey you rather than God, you be the judges.
It is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard.”
Aren’t these words from the first reading the story of our life? Doesn’t the
“world” keep saying “be quiet” to Christians? Don’t we hear, “keep you faith
out of the government, out of the school, and keep your faith to yourself”.
Yes, yes, and yes. But wouldn’t it be different if there was a healed man
with us, who was healed by our faith in Jesus? Probably everyone reading
this has experienced praying for someone who then recovers, but it’s not
the same as this powerful and public experience of Peter and John is it?
Why are the miracles of today so isolated and private?
Today’s psalm says, “though the Lord has chastised me, yet He has not
delivered me to death”. This too, is the story of our life. Who has not suffered?
Yet which of us is dead? No one reading this. We have this new day, and
another chance to do God’s will.
I can’t help but think of St. Francis when I read, “Go and proclaim the gospel
to every creature”. If you haven’t heard his little story, he once preached the
gospel to birds, who understood. Does anyone really think God wants us to
preach the gospel to animals?
So what struck you about today’s readings? :bible1::twocents:
