So let's talk about today's readings 5/2/09

I’ve heard these stories before and nothing strikes me but the middle of today’s
psalm:
“My vows to the Lord I will pay in the presence of all His people”

What are our vows to the Lord and how to we pay them in the presence of
all His people?

Today is the feast day of apostles Philip & James (the less, who was Bishop
of Jerusalem).

The first reading of this feast day (1Cor 15:1-8) gives an account of what happened
when Jesus rose from the dead:
  1. He appeared to Peter
  2. He appeared to the 12
  3. He appeared to 500 brothers at once
  4. He appeared to James
  5. He appeared to all the apostles
  6. He appeared to Paul
Were appearances 4,5, & 6 all after His ascension?

In the gospel of this feast day (John 14:6-14), it says:
“Whoever believes in Me will perform the same works as I do myself”

Where are the believers who are performing the same works as Jesus?
I am a believer, but I don’t perform the same works as Jesus. (yet!)

Hey there!

I think that the vows you pay for are dedicating your life to God and then living it through your way of life. those that live the life of God have many obstacles from others who do not believe. In fact I think my own being can be an obstacle. I am the most selfish person in the world, and this is a daily chore for me to work on. To sincerely pay my vows means to me, that I have to be willing to fight for change in myself and to do God’s Will and not my own.

I know that St Paul never “met” Jesus in the flesh. I do believe he appeared to the others before His Ascension. I would like to have been there.

Padre Pio was the only true faith healer that I know of in recent years. I am sure there have been others. I believe that people are capable of performing miracles, just everyday ones. How many times has a phone call, or a post on this site, or a letter or an inspirational book ever brought your faith up and reaffirmed it? That to me is a miracle. We always think in terms of the greatness of a miracle, not in an everyday one. I think miracles are daily and you may have saved one person by a thought or deed. This is all God asks us to do. He did not say we had to rasie the dead, move mountains or anything else. Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love thy neighbor. If we do that we are perfroming miracles each day. Do you realize that through your daily readings and posts, you are bringing the Word of God closer to me? I have no ione else to do this with. So it is a miracle for me.

I don’t either, that’s why I’m here…

No, I didn’t realize it, I was only thinking of myself, and how to bring the Word of God
closer to myself.

I suppose it’s time to thank everyone who has kindly posted what struck you about
the daily readings. Yes, you have brought me closer to the Word of God.
And yes, it is one of the chief works of Jesus. Thanks to each one, and to
vickinator for pointing it out…

I think it was called “today’s mass readings”
