So let's talk about today's readings 6/1/09

It was interesting that they already had a pentecost holiday, mentioned in the first
reading. I wondered why Tobit buried the man, when it would likely mean his death.
It’s not like he could save the man’s life - he was already dead. Why should his
family lose him forever so that he could “help” someone who was already dead?
I don’t understand the neighbors who mocked him. Shouldn’t they be instead ashamed that they had not the courage of Tobit? Who do they think they are, gentiles?

There is a missing verse in today’s psalm, it’s 3a. It says, “wealth and riches shall
be in his house”. I wonder why they took it out? We would never know it was there
if we didn’t have our own bible. Did they leave it out for a thinking reason or a
musical reason?

This is an excellent gospel, because I think the vineyard has been taken away, and
given to the Catholic Church. The first thing the new pope said to us was, “I am your
fellow worker in the vineyard”. But now, how will history repeat itself? Is God
sending servants to the Catholic Church to collect His share of the produce? Just
what kind of produce is it? And who are the servants? We know that last of all, He
will send His own Son, but not to be killed. My idea: the produce is the fruits of
the Spirit, and the servants sent to collect His share: the poor who come for help.

Today is the day of St. Justin.

Why should his
family lose him forever so that he could “help” someone who was already dead?

I feel maybe Tobit called him self doing a good deed, but then again when Anna brought home the goats, Tobits toils and angry came out in him, because of his illness. Makes me wonder when i get old and if someone found me what would they do bury me? No matter what there family thought. I really don’t know this prophet that well will have to read up on him. Maybe this reading is to make us come alive and do good deeds for all , no matter what our family says, Deeds that go undone don’t come with blessings.

My opinion Halos

In the Gospel we are the vineyard our Church, were the faithful and Jesus is the vine were the ones who will bring new people into the church and be fruitful. In a way these verse’s remind me of evanglizing, Getting those stray catholics back to church. sharing with them the great works Jesus has for them , I do this alot. but i am a convert and this is one of the things they teach you in RCIA .

“But now, how will history repeat itself?”

The church history is rich in different ways , and I feel that its going to take alot of prayer, evanglizing and bringing the catholics back, or recruting new ones. I feel its going to take world peace , ( with all of the North Americans praying the rosary for peace for the mid east). But i also feel as in history repeating itself , during the reformation the catholics went astray from the true church and its happening again, some blame the pope , others are tired of the changes. And alot of them are switching to different religions, like muslims, In knowing this i feel that its going to take the muslims to bring the catholics back .

Pentecost was/is a Jewish holiday, the Feast of Weeks or Shavu’ot. There are three major feasts in OT Judaism, Passover, Shavu’ot and Sukkot (Feast of Booths). The reason Jerusalem was filled with Jews from many nations on the day the Holy Spirit came to the Church was because they were there for the celebration of Shavu’ot.

It’s called Pentecost because it is 50 days after Easter - or Passover! (7 weeks + the first day).

you have some interesting opinions, especially this one:

alot of them are switching to different religions, like muslims, In knowing this i feel that its going to take the muslims to bring the catholics back .

If you please, how could a muslim bring a Catholic back to the Catholic Church?
