“those who live might no longer live for themselves
but for him”
– and how do we live for Him? I mean it, this is the only question worth
asking in life. When I got up this morning, did I get up for Him? Well, yes,
because I do my prayers in the morning. But how about when I had a cup
of coffee? I took that first warm sip, felt it go down, had another sip, and
began to become aware of the day… I did that for myself. And for whose
benefit am I sitting here writing this? It is my own. What does it do for God?
When I’m done, I’m planning to have some breakfast, how can I eat breakfast
for Jesus? And what good would it do Him if I didn’t eat?

This also from the first reading: “we might become the righteousness of God”
Those are golden words to me, that we might become God’s goodness, maybe
by doing the things on the list in Matt 25, or Corinthians 13, or what else might
God have for us to do today? We don’t know, but if only we pay attention and
not miss it, we will have the opportunity today to become God’s goodness.
Not someday, but today. Isn’t that exciting?

From today’s psalm:
“He pardons all your iniquities,
he heals all your ills.
He redeems your life from destruction,
he crowns you with kindness and compassion.”

Have someone forgiven you? That was God! He is the one who gives people
the power to forgive us.
Have you been healed of anything ever? That was God! All healing comes from God.
Have you been loved or shown kindness? That was God! He gives the power of
love and kindness to people. I wish God could get all the credit for every good
thing because every good thing comes from God…

Today’s gospel says that making promises is evil.
We do not have the power to keep any promise because all the details of that
promise are in God’s hands. If we make a promise it is like we are saying we
have the power of God to control all the circumstances.

Today is the day of St. Anthony of Padua…

So what struck you about today’s readings? :bible1::twocents:

Hello, cheeto1,

What struck me today was something you wrote, that it was for your benefit that you were writing this post. I don’t think that’s completely accurate. I think you can be writing for the benefit of others. The questions get the readers to think and prayerful thinking can turn our thoughts to God. In that way, this is living for Him.

Thank you beachcomber, nothing would make me happier than turning people’s
thoughts to God. But your thoughts are already on God aren’t they. You’re at a
Catholic website, and have probably read the daily readings.

I just don’t have anybody else to talk to about the daily readings with, it’s you all who
are doing me a favor…

And… I really appreciate that! 🙂
