In the first reading, Paul and his associates list all the ways they prove they are
followers of Christ. First and foremost, it’s by their attitude at suffering. They are
ready for everything, good times and bad, praise and insult. They are like Jesus,
the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever. Their circumstances don’t change them,
like they do me. My circumstances make me proud, satisfied, ashamed, or fearful.

Today our priest said we should try this formula of Jesus because it works. He said
always instead of defending yourself against someone, you should give them double
whatever they want. He said people today don’t trust this formula, and I am afraid I
am one of them. But what if it does work? Has anyone tried it?

So what struck you about today’s readings? :bible1::twocents:

Your priest is a wise man.

One can ask if there is a “more counter cultural message in the entire bible.”

Is it even possible to accomplish?

Not by ourselves, with God MAYBE! But we are nevertheless to to try!

Come Holy Spirit Come!

But we are nevertheless to to try!
O.K. so I tried it today. (now 6/16/09)
It was kind of like a disaster, and I was trying!
I was offended three times and offered resistance,
I didn’t do what was asked of me 4 times,
But the 2 times I did manage to do double what was asked of me, were met with
surprise and delight…

Well done good and faithful servant!😃

Our awesome God always looks at out hearts BRFORE He looks at our results.
Guess which is more important to HIM?

Love and prayers,

Well, I decided to try it again (6/17/09), and it went even worse.

I was offended twice, offering resistance,
said “no” twice,
and two times was met with the unfortunate circumstance having to choose who
to do for, while leaving the other unsatisfied.
Not once did I do double for anyone…

So even this is something God does for us, not we for God.
He is the one to give us an opportunity to do double for someone…
