“that you may have long life on the land
which the LORD, your God, is giving you forever”
Well, it’s like He didn’t exactly give the land to them forever. They had to fight
and kill for it. But it was impossible for them to keep all the laws and statues,
and even today, they are surrounded with violent enemies on all sides. What
good is it to have land? If you have to live with the anxiety where everyone wants
to kill you? Why did God even say these words to them, when He had to know
it would be impossible for them to keep the laws… An elderly friend of mine once
said, “the land is always there, only the governments change…”
“you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear” – these words strike
me from the second reading, but I don’t know what to say about it…
“they worshiped, but they doubted” – what exactly did they doubt?
This gospel tells them to baptise in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but we make all our prayers in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit…why do we do this, and others don’t?
