So many Christians are “forsaking the assembly of the brethren” because of so many problems in their protestant churches. I have lots of friends from my protestant days who now have grown children who grew up completely “unchurched” because Christian mom and dad never could agree on a church to attend.
In all of these cases, they are seasoned evangelicals and burned out on the ever splintering, ever-changing, bickering nature of the churches they attended. Some believe it is better to turn on the tv and watch a trusted evangelist than to risk hearing “false teaching” at the local non-denominational church.
My Catholic convert friend reminded me that, with protestants, each of them acts as their own Pope, their own authority, their own interpreter of Scripture.
Their response to my bringing up “Remember the Sabbath” and “do not forsake the assembly of the brethren” is “we have church at home with our family.” And, “where two or more are gathered, there I am in your midst.”
This saddens me. Anyone have some words of encouragement?
