So my 5 year old daughter told me Jesus is crazy

On Saturday we were eating lunch and out of the blue she says, “Dad, Jesus is crazy.”

I started laughing and sked her why she said that and her reply was quote,
“Jesus is crazy because he is his own father - thats crazy”

I said “No, thats not true. Jesus has his own daddy just like you do”

Then she said, “and Joseph is his step dad.”

I said, “correct”

She goes to a christian private school. My own daughter gets if right, why can’t the school get it right?

Never count on someone else “getting it right” - especially when it comes to your kids. It is up to you to hlep them weed through all the misinformation…Kids are a lot smarter that we give them credit for sometimes, aren’t they?

When we were young we were taught to say His earthly father. Joseph was not the divine heavenly father. With so much talk of biological parents today I can see where this is all going.

Why should he “stop her”? She is using the logic of a five year old and when she is instructed in truth, that will probably become her base of reference and she will no longer say it. It is a perfect “teaching moment”.

when granddaughter #2 was about 4 she insisted King Herod was Jesus real evil father, and gave out whole plot line of how this came about, because she saw the movie, and evil king Herod tried to kill baby Jesus because he was really the king’s son. Yes, grandma, if Darth Vader was Luky Skywalker’s real daddy, then evil king Herod is Jesus’ real daddy. I saw the movie, grandma. now that she has been in Catholic school for a few years I hope they have knocked some sense into her, and that DD does not let the kids watch star wars movies any more.

I would not expect a 5 year old to be able so say much more than “Jesus is crazy,” though a 10 year old might express things more clearly and precisely.
