Grrr

Whats with the media!!

I study Journalism. In one of my lectures today my lecturer was discussing how “relevant topics” are a useful way of getting your name known using social networking etc.

Anyway, he showed us something he had written because it was relevant. It was called “A plan for the Vatican”. Basically, it said that all priests should have sex with each other and nuns. He then added, “that way, it’ll keep those disgusting perverts and their pope off my kids”.

I didn’t say anything at the time, and I don’t think I will. It will only inspire him and others. They love the scandal, its what drives them. But it really annoyed me. That level of bias and hatred for the Holy Church has infiltrated into the minds of my own lecturer (who is meant to teach his students to stick to the story and not opinionate). It’s sad. But I actually feel sorry for him (and others) because I think… How much does it say about you that you jump on the bandwagon?

Anyway, thought I’d share that. This recent abuse has reaaallllyyy done some damage. 😦

Report it to the administration of the school.

If he’d made similar slams against Muslims he’d be run out on a rail.

If you can report this and still pass the class, then do it. If not, I feel for you. Professors are typically left leaning, but this is beyond that. It is sick and perverted, and at the very least report it after you get done with the class. It makes me so mad that a professor could get away with that behavior, and I agree with the previous posted. This would not be tolerated for any religion except a Christian one.

As Catholics we must be known to be very mild mannered and meek because this professor thought he would get away with this!

It must have been Satan speaking through him. You must report this kind of verbal abuse. Defend your faith, do not let other people speak so irreverently of our church. It is really disgusting the way that poor soul talked our faith.

I would try and get it taped/recorded the next time he makes such a comment for evidence before you report him. Don’t want this to account against you and just be swept under the rug. Don’t know how many more semesters left before you have to graduate. This scandal is bread and butter for some journalist IMO so it will be going on for sometime. Prayers for you.

God bless

I can relate to your post, as a similar thing happened to me in college around 1985. The circumstances were different, but the elements were the same. It caused quite a stir and I went so far as to having myself close to expelled by my insisting on changes being made in policies.

At the soonest possible instance, report this sham professor (or whatever he is) before he poisons the minds of others! Do it even if it causes you to fail the class- ethics is more important than a passing grade. Afterwards, when enough of the errors are public about this professor, the real “news” will be out–and he will be seeking employment elsewhere, if that is possible.

It is time that we, as Catholics, speak up and say what is on our minds. Some of us cannot seem to find the words or the means, but mark my word, there are others out there who do possess the writing skills that make the AP and New York Times writers look very unprofessional.

If you are to take on the task, do this in a charitable manner, with gentle correction, and if necessary, hire a lawyer. You may be suprised at how many will be behind you in the mission, and there is power in numbers. Use intelligent means and they cannot fail to produce intelligent results–changes for the better. There should be laws againts what he was doing, but they can be subtle. I pray that that day will come soon, as what we are experiencing is really unnecessary, but Anti-Catholicism is the last legal prejudice–this must be changed and we can do it.

It was an extremely tacky and uneducated remark. It amazes me that people like this teach!

I know the feeling - one of my professors likes making snide remarks about the Church, Christianity, etc whenever he can. He has also assigned us Daniel Goldhagen’s book on Pope Pius’ alleged involvement with the Nazis as a required text. I’m thinking that I won’t say anything until after term ends, unless he says something more outrageous than his little guffaws, and after the end of term, I’ll report it to the administration and in his review.

Why wait?

“Blessed are ye when they hate you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake. Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.”

This professor obviously is quite sick to make such a statement. Nonetheless, I can sympathise with how unpleasant it is for you. Whether you choose to report him or do nothing is your decision and I hope you sense my support either way.

I was talking last night with some Catholics. This is not the first scandoul nor the last the church will ever see. And often, the church comes out stronger after a scandoul and it is when Saints do their best works.

This man’s statements will come and go but God’s church will last forever

I had a proffesor that did this to me while I was at college… I listened and said nothing until he gave us an assignment… I chose my topic to be " the defamation of the Catholic Religion". I recieved an A, I did not attack him but rather showed him the love that my religion has, I gave him examples of lives lovingly lived and at the end I asked him if so many of us lived our lives in love and sacrifice and were unsong why did they sing about the few who lived their lives hurting others as if we all were guilty?

Even if I had recieved an F I would still sing today about the love my faith has to offer and how we are not to look on others to mirror our lord but rather look on ourselves to mirror the love our faith has taught us. My proffessor is no longer at the school I attended but I still have the paper I wrote and at the end is a notation from my teacher.

“Angel, thank you for your heartfelt defence of your faith, Keep writting!”

For chrissakes, WHAT RECENT ABUSE? Defend your faith!

Read this:

Borrow some of the better lines and push it back at them.

Woah, relax, no need to bring the Lord’s name into it :o

All I’m saying is that I’m going by what the average layman is told. Hence, I stick to what I said. And it has hurt us. Defending our Faith is something I do often. But in cases such as this, its almost entirely futile. Show them as many sites as you like, they still won’t believe you. Why? Because of what I already said - people LOVE a scandal and a rumour and something to talk about. The exact thing Christians are told to avoid!

Anyway, I’m not going to do anything about it. He mentioned it once, and it was kind of in passing thought anyway, probably thought he’d try spark some mass debate or act cool in front of students. Anyway, a reaction would spur him on others on. I’ve noticed that Catholics aren’t allowed to defend themselves. As soon as that happens you are “just some Jesus freak”. I don’t think he’ll make another remark.

I just thought however that his original remark was just really disgusting, and that he would write something like that. Saying that Priests and Nuns should engage in sexual acts… where is the respect? It’s disgusting in my opinion. And yeah, if it was Islam this guy would’ve been nailed (although there aren’t any muslims in my class) because hey respect the Islamic faith and Mohammed! It’s weird that people never attack the Islamic faith. Out of fear, I suppose. Too much CNN reporting on how every muslim wants to bomb your house. So its left to the Catholics, the meek and humble ones!

Show them as many sites as you like, they still won’t believe you.
The site was for you. And no, it’s not showing websites, because these nitwits can’t read. It’s raising your hand and saying very quietly something like this:

Sexual and physical abuse of children and young people is a global plague; its manifestations run the gamut from fondling by teachers to rape by uncles to kidnapping-and-sex-trafficking. In the United States alone, there are reportedly some 39 million victims of childhood sexual abuse.

Forty to sixty percent were abused by family members, including stepfathers and live-in boyfriends of a child’s mother—thus suggesting that abused children are the principal victims of the sexual revolution, the breakdown of marriage, and the hook-up culture – the very things the Catholic Church opposes.

One study reports that 6-10 percent of public school students have been molested in recent years—some 290,000 between 1991 and 2000 – and that 2 percent of sex abuse offenders were Catholic priests—a phenomenon that spiked between the mid-1960s and the mid-1980s but seems to have virtually disappeared (****six credible cases of clerical sexual abuse in 2009 were reported in the U.S. bishops’ annual audit, in a Church of some 65,000,000 members).

The vast majority of the abuse cases in the United States took place decades ago. Yet you and your ilk portray the Catholic Church is as the epicenter of the sexual abuse of the young, with hints of an ecclesiastical criminal conspiracy involving sexual predators whose predations continue today. These are lies being spread by powerful political interests like the NY Times who seek to advance the gay/abortionist agenda and plaintiff attorneys who are after the Holy Grail of being able to sue the Vatican in U.S. Courts."

Have your facts ready and fire away.

But to sit there and [sigh]…arrgh. Get a life, a Catholic one preferably.

With all due respect, don’t speak to me like that.

I think what you said is great, and raises a lot of important issues. But don’t overestimate what you’ve said and your own research and then undermine my frustration.

I think you’ve missed the point of my post. In any case, listen. These are academics. Not laymen. Journalist academics at that. I think reading and researching is something they CAN do. What you’ve said, while important, is something that has a massive gaping hole that I see people claiming all the time. That is. "yeah so what? Nice figures, but it doesn’t negate what happened. Why try and shift focus and blame. We’re talking about the Catholic Church, not everyone else.’

So while you are right, I also think the above makes sense. The issue is slightly different, at least in what I am talking about. Its hard enough to speak to most people about it, but to a professor who already has an ego, give me a break man.

I have a life, and a great Catholic one at that. 👍

Hiring a lawyer seems like an extreme thing to do, especially for a college student who probably doesn’t have much money. And since the professor is part of the liberal academia, there’s no guarantee that the dean or whoever this would be reported to would do anything about it.
The best thing to do would be wait until the end of the semester and then get together with any other students that are affected by this professor’s remarks and go to report him. If you have other students to back you up in what you say, you have a better chance of being believed and of getting some results. Take some notes on what this guy says and when he says them to show that you’re serious about this.

Sorry no break given. No one is “shifting focus or blame,” except the enemies of the Church who seek to discredit Her. "The sexual abuse story in the global media is almost entirely a Catholic story, in which the Catholic Church is portrayed as the epicenter of the sexual abuse of the young, with hints of an ecclesiastical criminal conspiracy involving sexual predators whose predations continue today.

That the vast majority of the abuse cases in the United States took place decades ago is of no consequence to this story line. For the narrative that has been constructed is often less about the protection of the young (for whom the Catholic Church is, by empirical measure, the safest environment for young people in America today) than it is about taking the Church down—and, eventually, out, both financially and as a credible voice in the public debate over public policy. For if the Church is a global criminal conspiracy of sexual abusers and their protectors, then the Catholic Church has no claim to a place at the table of public moral argument…"those are George Weigel’s words and they are right on.

You make it sound like this is just another “point of view.” You’re a relativist knucklehead and your respect for your “journalist academics” is pathetic; your silence in the face of their attacks is gutless. Grow up.

And I don’t “raise important issues.” I speak the truth and defend my Church – hardly an “overestimation.” Try it yourself someday.
