So this is a big deal for me. And I just wanted to say it somewhere

So yes. I did finally go to confession. I did finally admit to a lot of things I hadn’t been admitting to. Even in past confessions. I mean I did the works. And I mean I didn’t get eaten alive. I was allowed to leave without an escort. I feel about 100 pounds lighter. I feel pretty good really. So I’ve thought about this. I mean I’ve been sort of a scared Catholic for a long time. I mean I’ve sort of never felt like I’d really finished converting. I’d always sort of felt on the outside looking in. Because I’d never really been honest. I’d never told the whole truth about everything. But now I have. So something has to change now. I mean I think it’s time to take ownership of this thing. It’s time to change my religion status.

So from this day on it’s just going to say Catholic. Instead of, ah, what it says now. Instead of the extra ‘ish’ on the end. I think I’m going to do this now. Right after this post.

Peace guys. Thanks to all of you who helped me get here. And I mean you don’t all know it either. But some of you have supported me quietly through prayer. And others have given me private advice. Many have offered public suggestions. And others have scolded me a bit too. I mean I needed all of that. I needed all of your support to make this step. So I wanted to thank you all and say that I’m no longer as afraid of God. I’m no longer afraid to pray to Him. I’m no longer scared of what He might think of a guy like me.

Because He told me already. He said that He forgave me. He even forgave a guy like me. I mean I’m pretty chocked up about it. I mean it’s a big deal. Well I don’t know what else to say.

❤️ I love you guys! :grouphug: ❤️

Thank you for this witness Trident, welcome! Uplifting to read about your story and your feeling.

Blessings to you!

Thank you very much, Trident. You are an inspiration to a live-long Catholic like me. God
bless you and keep up the good work!🙂

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow 😃

Wonderful news, Trident!!!

Hello Trident H

Yes. I’ve seen you around and always wondered what the “ish” meant since you know more about catholicism than most of my ‘born catholic’ friends.

So maybe you were always “here”, but now you know it for sure. Welcome!

Every year I made my catechism kids write a bible passage at the beginning of their notebook.

For the year of the Sacrament of Reconciliation here’s what I picked:

“There will be rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents”.

For full text, read Luke 15: 1-7

And you know what’s really beautiful? God loved you even before you went to confession because He sees your heart.

God bless you
Fran

Thanks for sharing your experience. It took me back to my first confession as a kid in 2nd grade when I felt light as a feather after confession and amazed at how forgiven I felt like I had a clean slate.

Time to head there again, it’s been too long and you have inspired me to do so.

God Bless,

Mary.

For me, the feeling after going to confession is the same feeling you have after taking a hot shower without bathing for a considerable period of time. Cleansing.

Good luck.

Thank you for your beautiful witness to the Divine mercy of Jesus Christ in the sacrament of reconciliation. I am excited for you, too. Your post brought back memories of my reconversion experience and a truly good confession that brought such peace into my soul. That joy has never left me. Praise the Lord.

I feel that way after every confession (light as a feather) and I’m old… congratulations and welcome!
Prayers for you!

So, you’re back in the boat now, no longer perilously drifting along. Wonderful! Praise God! Remember though, your voyage is not finished. There may yet be rough seas ahead. We hope not, but it is always best to keep the possibility in mind, to be prepared. God willing, you are in this journey for the long haul. The sacraments are your life preserver. Don’t go out on the water without them! Keep them close and make use of them often. Pray for our captain too (Pope Francis) and your fellow crew-mate (me). Bon voyage.

I had a confession the other day where I felt like I could run through a wall for a good time afterwards.

You may want to consider a plenary indulgence (look it up: things like reading the Bible for half an hour or walking the Way of the Cross can be) afterwards. God is merciful and generous!

You didn’t get eaten alive, not escorted out of the confessional?! That’s so funny but so true about how we can feel about going to confession!

That’s wonderful - to feel fully Catholic!!

We all really need a tribe, don’t we? A family, camaraderie?

I’m so happy for you, Trident!!! 🙂 👍:extrahappy:

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Thanks for the positives. It’s really helps me to stay focused. Knowing that you care. And I mean I haven’t had a family in a long time. So this is pretty much it for me. But I mean this is a pretty cool family for a guy like me to have. I can get advice from a lot of different angles here. I mean I can get advice from so many different brothers and sisters that I never had before. And of course I can get advice from my cyber-mom. Thanks all of you for that. Thanks for keeping me accountable. Especially in the future. Because it’s still me after all. And I’m going to probably need you guys again when the good feelings fade. Because I’ve got a bad habit of looking for excuses to fail. So I’m trying to break that by not letting myself off the hook. By always being accountable. By being honest about everything. So I can’t hide stuff and pretend. I can’t pretend I’m someone that I’m not. So if you guys see that I’m up to no good just remind me of where I’m supposed to be. Remind me that I shouldn’t be doing that. I need those words sometimes. Otherwise all I ever hear is me. And we already know that he’s not a good role model.

So yeah. You’re sort of my village. And I guess that makes me your child. Don’t let me run with scissors. Please.

Peace guys. You’re the best! 🙂

This is such wonderful news, Trident! I am so happy for you. Thank you for the update.

Yes!!! Terrific, Trident!

The love was always there from God’s side, and it always will be. So glad you decided to open the door to His knocking!

The key is to keep current with the sacraments. If you feel yourself slipping, confession and Mass are the first places to go.

God bless! I’m so happy for you!

Thanks you guys. Thanks so much! I’m so glad to have you both as my friends. You’ve helped me see stuff I wasn’t seeing before. I mean you didn’t let me off with just being another wrong-headed guy. You took the time to help me see it. Please keep doing that! 🙂

Peace Zelie & Alpha!

… I mean I’ve sort of never felt like I’d really finished converting. …
Same here. There was a row about it.

Now where I go to “refresher” sessions there is a new person wanting to come in. That’s God’s way of putting someone newer than I am on my heart.

Yeah. You said it right Vic. Like usual. I love the way you phrase things. You’ve got a good way with that.

Peace.
