Please somebody help me. What is this all about in the below links. I must be so naïve and out of touch with reality with what is going on in the world. Then I thought I know I will come to Catholic Answer forums and ask about these links. To my surprise there is a forum for Traditional Catholicism. Please somebody in a nutshell… please… please… provide me with a link or an answer regarding what is Traditional verses what and how do I know what my parish falls in. I am sorry to look so stupid.

Wrapped up in the new order??? What new order??? “Unfortunately, the two Conciliar popes are wrapped up in that New Order, and their Catholicism, as well as their morality in pedophilia program that they facilitated amongst their clergy, are under suspicion by many true Catholics.”

You have to stop reading their stuff. They are not in good standing with the Church. They think the Ordinary Form of the Mass is invalid (a simulation) and as I understand don’t celebrate the Mass according to the 1962 Missal (the Extraordinary Form) but the Tridentine rite from before 1962.

Their material will only leave you confused.

Lynn, you have stumbled onto an intra-Catholic argument about certain liturgical and devotional practices that are commonly dubbed “The Charismatic Movement.” You have a right to feel confused as the issues involved are complicated and there is likely to be partisanship and some dishonesty from at least some of the people on both sides of this argument.

Briefly:

The Charismatic Movement is a broad series of faith initiatives started by Catholics who are seeking a deeper and more powerful experience of the presence and work of God in their real and daily lives. It’s emphasis is strongly on devotion to God the Holy Spirit and the exercise of the various mystical gifts (such as speaking in tounges) that are associated with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and other disicples at Pentecost, as recorded in the Book of Acts. In some ways it is paralell to the Protestant movement of Pentecostalism, but in theory it seeks to retain allegiance to Catholic doctrine and practice. The laity tend to have a strong role here, although bishops, priests, and deacons can also be found in reputable Charismatic groups.

The Traditional movement, on the other hand, is a series of reactions carried out by those Catholics who believe that the contemporary “way” of being Catholic, as developed in and after Vatican II, is somehow inadequate or even defective. Traditionalists emphasize heavily frequent Confession and Communion, and they also place great value on the performance of customary devotions such as the Rosary or the Stations of the Cross, or the devotions to the Sacred Heart. Traditionalism is opposed to all forms of Protestantism and is a much more hierarchical and formalized religion approach, as opposed to Charismaticism, which emphasizes direct experience. Traditionalism is strongly centered on clerical leadership as distinct from lay leadership.

In the case of the allexperts webpage you linked to, the person asking the question is concerned because he sees the religious practices of the Charismatics he is dealing with mutating further and further from Catholic truth in the name of conforming to false standards the Charismatics find to be more to their spiritual liking, and that empahsize spiritual pride rather than Christian charity for God and neighbor. IF that is an accurate assement of what is happening in that Charismatic group then there is a big problem and he needs to leave before he succumbs to the disease infecting it. Once again, IF.

The person answering the question, however, the so-called “FrMichael”, is a self-apointed “expert” with no proof that he is a real priest, an expert on theology, or even a Catholic layman, and the opinion he is promoting is highly partisan and distorted. He is attempting to paint with a broad brush many different spiritual movements of many many thousands of Catholics, as if they all shared the same sins and failures of some members of the Charismatic movement. This is both dishonest and uncharitable. He is also dragging in a series of outside matters, e.g. the Liturgy of the Hours, which is the sequence of prayers Catholic clergy are supposed to say daily, and which is not related to the Charismatics.

My advice: forget that you read anything from “FrMichael” and don’t worry about the Charismatic movement or Traditionalism until you have a stronger foundation in Catholicism. Work on your understanding of the essence of the faith and your daily adherence to the Law of God and frequent reception of His Sacraments; later, you can take a look at more advanced issues.

God bless.

I am sorry to look so stupid.
You don’t look stupid. This is a very difficult subject and it is perfectly reasonable for you to be confused about it. I will try to answer your questions as best I can.

The “New Order” is the Roman Catholic Church as it has existed since the reforms of Vatican II and its aftermath. The author of the statement you quoted does not recognize Popes Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI as valid popes because of their support of the “New Order”. However, this author’s remarks about pedophilia are complete ******** and should be disregarded.

Traditional parishes offer the Traditional Latin Mass and sacraments, generally according to the 1962 liturgical books, though sometimes earlier editions are used. In addition, traditional parishes adhere to and uphold traditional teachings and practices that are often disregarded in the modern church. How do you know what your parish falls in? First of all, it shouldn’t be too difficult to tell whether or not the Mass you attend is the Traditional Latin Mass. If it is in Latin (not English), the priest faces away from the people, and almost the entire Canon (or Eucharistic Prayer) is said silently, then you can know without doubt that it is the Traditional Latin Mass. If your parish does not exclusively celebrate the traditional Mass, then it is not a traditional Catholic parish. If it does use the traditional Mass, then you should ask your priest what your parish is affiliated with. There are many, many different traditional Catholic groups in existence, some of which are not in communion with the Holy See.

I sincerely apologize if this assumption is incorrect, but it seems that you want to make sure that your parish is traditional, as if it was some sort of certificate of authenticity. A vast majority of Roman Catholic Churches are not traditional. If you are looking for a traditional church, your priest or other members of your parish may be able to help you.

I hope this was helpful, and I’ll pray for you.

As far as I know sedevacantism is a banned topic in these forums.

Here’s what the CatholicCulture.org site reviews says of Traditio.com:

Description
This website claims to be the “Independent Voice of Traditional Roman Catholicism since 1994”, but it shows extreme contempt for the Magisterium of the Church. Everything from Vatican II to the present time is rejected. It is doubtful that the founder of the site, “Fr.” M.E. Morrison, is even a validly ordained Catholic priest. He runs a so-called “Catholic oratory” in San Francisco as an “independent” priest. This is a site to be avoided.
