So what did you actually wear to church?

I know we’ve had a ton of discussions on what you should wear. I’m curious what you actually wore.

I had on gray jeans, a lightweight rose-print sweater, and some dress shoes. Earrings and light makeup.

I wore a skirt and sweater, heels, a necklace, and light makeup as well.

I try to wear something that respects.the place I am going. Going to church we are entering God’s house and my mother always dressed me appropriatly. I remember one time, after I moved, I went to pick my mom up for Mass and she said" I see you did not have time to change, go on home dress and we will go to a later Mass.’’ That always stayed with me. I think it’s up to the individual if they are ok with what they are wearing. God Bless

See that’s the question - I don’t want to know what you think you should wear, I want to know what you actually wore last week! Or are wearing this coming week. Whichever.

Sorry, last week I wore black pants, “burnt” orange shirt, dress shoes I wear bracelets everyday had them on. oh, and I forgot ,off black knee highs. Cannot tell you anything else,by the way what do you do with the info? Kidding… God Bless.

Hehe, I’m just curious. We see so many impassioned arguments over it, so I’m just curious what a random sampling of CAFers actually wears.

Like it or not (and I’m fine with it), Mass goers dress pretty casually here, especially for the Saturday Vigil Mass, it being a beach community near a major university in laid-back L.A. When it’s hot (like now), I wear a dark colored T-shirt with nothing printed on it, dark gray cargo pants and black walking shoes, which looks downright reverent next to the shorts, flip-flops, and tank tops that other guys sometimes wear. When it’s cooler, I wear a collared shirt or a warm pull-over.

Charcoal grey pants, short-sleeve reddish shirt, semi-casual as you might find at REI (upscale camping goods store), plus comfortable simulated leather black walking shoes. I shaved beforehand too.

It depends on the season. If it’s winter, I wear pants and a long sleeved top. Most of the year tho, I wear dresses. In Summer, my shoes are sandals. The rest of the time, sneakers. Unfortunately, I have the kind of feet that I can’t wear most types of shoes. And I made sure to check with the parish office beforehand. After all, I want to look my best when I am in God’s House.

Usually black, grey or navy pants. Walking shoes, flats or sandals. Plain or print t-shirt dressed up with light jacket or coordinating over shirt. Occasionally plain jewelry. Light makeup.

As a “tween” in the 60s went shopping with Mom for a dress to be worn to a famous pilgrimage site. I wanted the sleeveless scooped necked floral number with the laced bodice that reminded me of Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty). We got the turquoise/cream vertical striped round necked elbow & knee grazing dirndl with a belt.

I see all kinds of dress going on at church. No judgement at others, just wonderment at myself … I can’t MAKE myself show up with bare arms bare chest (never mind spaghetti straps!)

I remember one Easter when a woman and her children showed up like they were ready to go to the beach. (And they were after Mass was over.) Mama and I were aghast. The woman was in a mini with spaghetti straps and stilleto heels. The kids were in t-shirts, shorts and flip flops. What would Father say when he saw them? Would he kick them out?

The parishioner they were related to apologized profusely to the rest of us for their attire. He had tried to tell them how to dress for Mass at our parish. But they wouldn’t listen. And it would’ve been rude of him to leave them behind on Easter Sunday. (They were from out of town visiting for the holiday.) And Father, bless him, didn’t say a word during Mass. But in the next edition of the Church Bulletin, there was a notice about proper attire for Mass. giggle

I normally wear dress pants and a knit top along with dress shoes; nothing fussy, not a lot of jewelry or big hair. I used to be more casual and would wear knee-length shorts in the summer, but upped my game a bit about a year ago and dress better than I used to. I’ve recently listened to some podcasts by Fr. Chad Ripperger about modesty and they gave me a lot of food for thought – I’m paraphrasing here, but he was talking about modesty in terms of charity to others…when a (female) person intentionally dresses immodestly with the understanding that their clothing choices may draw others into sin, it’s a sin against charity. Meanwhile, Fr. Ripperger makes it clear he’s not in favor of the look he calls “Catholic Amish”. I also stay away from athletic shoes and form-fitting anything at Mass.

I think one thing that has changed my attitude a lot is having a son who’s heading into puberty. Some weekends we attend the Newman Center at the university because of timing issues…but the obvious (mostly clueless) immodesty of some of the females there makes it tough. If we don’t attend that Mass, we’d have to drive farther away for a Mass that’s 1.5 hours later, and on a Sunday night I usually give in and go to the Newman Center. As time progresses, I’ll have to decide to wait and go to the other Mass, but maybe winter clothing will help. My usual church keeps the air conditioning to freezing cold level in the summer and I could never figure it out…now I think it’s because it keeps people from dressing too bare.

Black trousers, shoes and socks with a white collarless shirt. Not that many would notice since I was wearing an amice and alb over it. 😉

(not that an alb or cassock “hides” everything… I spent a good portion of Mass watching neon green and blue tennis shoes poking out from under the altar servers’ cassocks)

Brown dress (maxi/floral) with a brown v-neck sweater (cashmere) over it. Black boots (short). Brown veil.
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) Oh and I was late, which is rare, so everybody saw it all when I took my spot. No make up.

I’m surprised how many people remember details about what they wore to Mass last weekend.

I don’t remember what I wore but I’m pretty sure it involved cotton fabric. Oh, and some kind of shoes and socks… I don’t have a nice pair of sandals, but if I did I might have worn them because it was warm last weekend.
