So what did you actually wear to church?

I forget exactly which shirt I wore Sunday … might have been one of my polo shirts. I know I wore my gray slacks because those were the only decent pants I had clean. (I did laundry on Monday.)

Being a Third Order Franciscan, I wear my habit when serving as a EMHC or when Lectoring. If just in the congregation, I wear a dress or skirt with a blazer or a pant suit.

Yes, I just hope they return more appropriately dressed the next time. Not all priests are as diplomatic as ours was.

😱

I cannot imagine any pastor I’ve ever known making a comment to people who actually get their rear ends into the pews on a Sunday!

I wore some slacks and a knit top with a cardigan or some kind of wrap. That’s what I always wear when playing the organ. I tried wearing a skirt a few times, but they hang too low (onto the pedals) when I’m playing.

I usually wear dress slacks & a nice top. Capris if it’s hot. I wear my Birkenstocks until the WNY weather makes real shoes a necessity.

I might be in the complete minority here. 😯

Living in a hipster part of town, where everyone in general just looks like they have rolled out of bed, in various stages of very prim to very improper, means that I take an extremely relaxed view on what I wear.

Mass attire usually means clean cotton sweats (similar to ath-leisure attire), and a jumper, with sneakers, no make up, and hair in a bun.

And I am not alone in this dress choice, ranges from kid to seniors.

It’s a cultural thing, I think.

At my parish, modesty levels rise drastically in the winter, because it’s freezing out there.

During football season, suddenly everyone’s wearing jeans and orange jerseys. (Most games are played on Sundays.)

In summer, we go mostly casual, with shorts and t-shirts and the like.

Some of us are fairly consistent through all the seasons – but for me that’s not because of any deep spiritual conviction. It could easily be chalked up to my pride, that I don’t want to be seen as sloppy by people who see me at mass.

Go to mass. Open your heart to God. :+1:t4:

I wear smart jeans and a cotton top (it is like a smock with big pockets), plus a jacket as it is getting chilly. I need freedom of movement especially as I need to be prepared to be in and out of the pew and big pockets for the census clicker, mass stamp etc. Speaking of which, I had better buy a new pair of jeans ready for when my current ones start going.

Wow. Is this the norm at your parish?
Pretty much the norm across my whole city (around 4 million people). Of course, some more and some less so.

I agree!

It shouldn’t be a requirement to look a certain way. Each accordingly to their own ability, time, and access to laundry machines, etc. Personally, I think actions speak louder than attire. It’s more important to me that people turn up to Mass and act appropriately, than they look the part and are disrespectful.
