Does Pope Benedict relinquish the name Benedict and go back to Cardinal Ratzinger? What do we call him the day after he resigns?

That hasnt been mentioned yet, but the title he may very well carry will be “Emeritus Bishop of Rome”

No idea, but I think most will know him as Pope Benedict.

I’ll always think of as Pope Benedict. I’ll have to get used to calling him Cardinal I guess. :o

According to “Inside the Vatican” Dr. Moynihan Report: Feb.11, 2013 Letter #7:
First, Pope Benedict has not decided to “resign” his office, but to renounce it. The distinction is important. He will not be a “retired Pope,” but he will be, according to Vatican officials I spoke with today, simply “Cardinal Ratzinger” once again. There will be no danger of “two Popes” – this present Pope will no longer be a Pope, not even a retired one.

:shrug:Sorry, but I am unable to find this letter on his website right now. the letter is very informative & long. I wish I could post it here.

The big deal the press is making over the fact there will be 2 living Popes is so silly. What does it matter? The Holy Father Pope Benedict will just go somewhere quiet and live what little time left to him in holiness and prayer. The new Pope will take upon himself (or herself? smack my face now!!!) the huge burden of the papacy and all will go on as it has for the past many years. Hopefully, we will see a young and vibrant prince of the Church take up the reins and steer us all into a new age of vibrancy and rejuvenation for our Holy Mother Church.
