You all are killing me, here! All this talk about pasta and pizza and sandwiches!! Not a bit of it is on my diet. But I will persevere. I will inhale deeply of the smell of the yummie foods as I pass them by!
My Fridays are even more restricted than other days during Lent. For lunch I have a bowl of “chicken” noodle soup (the “chicken” is actually nasty little chunks of soy protein). I abhor this soup, so I chose it purposely to have every Friday of Lent as a type of penance. I hate it, so I offer it up in thanksgiving for even having a meal to eat since there are so many in this world who don’t have the option to choose what to eat (or even to eat at all). For dinner I have either tuna salad and veggies, or a couple of Boca burgers (without bread) and green salad.

Awwwwwww, sorry Judy! :hug1: Isn’t it sort of funny how we’re all torturing ourselves with “FOOD TALK” though? You have to find the humor in the fact… that we’re all starving! We’re such wimps in the western world :rotfl: EESH… we’re pathetic! :doh2:

I like your idea of eating a particular food… that isn’t too palatable! That’s a great form of penance!

Ok, I have to get back to thinking about COLD, RUNNY scoops of tuna… because my stomach is growling. 😊

God bless.

LOL! I know!! I’ve been on my weight loss program for 2 months now, and I still torture myself with the smells of the foods I cannot have right now. :rotfl: I just keep reminding myself that I will be able to have them again eventually.

I had the fish meal from McDonald’s. Should’ve went to Wendy’s instead.

lol, is wendy’s any good? we had fish filets from mcdonald’s too…and ugh. i always feel horrible, physically and mentally after eating that garbage!:crying:

Egg noodles with asparagus that needed eating up. I added a small bit of olive oil, mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese, and some Mrs. Dash. It’s pretty darn tasty for a quick throw together!

Ok, so kind of random, but I saw this and I was like, "I have a great (vegetarian) recipe for noodles and asparagus that would be perfect for Lent. Well here it is:

Marinade:
1/4 c sesame oil
3 Tbsp dark sesame oil
7 Tbsp soy sauce (we use tamari)
3 Tbsp Chines black or balsamic vinegar
3 1/2 Tbsp dark brown sugar
2 tsp salt
2 tsp chili oil (use a tad more for spicier)
1 Tbsp minced ginger
1/4 c chopped cilantro

Noodles & Asparagus:
2 lbs. asparagus, trimmed & thinly sliced on the diagonal
1 - 14 oz package Chinese egg noodles (we substitute Soba noodles)
10 scallions, including firm greens, thinly sliced
1/4 sesame seeds, toasted until lightly browned

Mix the marinade ingredients together, stirring to dissolve the sugar (a blender works great!)

Steam asparagus until bright green and tender, but still firm. Rinse under cold water and set on a towel to dry.

Cook noodles according to package. Rinse under cold water and shake off excess water.

Toss noodles with the marinade and most of the scallions, sesame seeds, and asparagus. Mound in a bowl or on a platter and garnish with the remaining scallions, sesame seeds, and asparagus.

(This recipe is from Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone by Deborah Madison)

We like to make everything a little early and let it chill for about an hour before mixing and serving. Especially on a hot day. Makes a good side dish for a group or a single entree meal for 2-3 people.

I hope ya’ll enjoy.

Haha! I actually haven’t had the fish from Wendy’s, but it did look good in their commercial, so I wanted to try it. Yea, I hadn’t had McDonald’s for a long time before today, but I had to take my car to the garage at lunch time, so I couldn’t be picky. I would’ve gone to Burger King, but I don’t think they even have fish there - Whoppers aren’t exactly made of fish, unfortunately. Man, all this talk about food is making me hungry!

Have you tried the Panko fried Fish Sandwich from Wendy’s? I don’t do fast food, but on the commercial it looks delicious. My neighbor regularly fry’s fish in Panko Bread Crumbs & it is REALLY GOOD!! He usually brings DH & I over a piece to sample. The Panko makes it light & crispy. I mainly eat low-carb, but if I was going to eat a fish sandwhich from a chain, it would be the new one from Wendy’s.🙂

Panko is awesome…I buy it and coat shrimp and other fish in it…and the nice thing, it’s healthier and lighter than traditional ‘american’ bread crumbs.

Have you ever coated mushrooms or any other veggies in Panko? I am definately going to do that, as well as the Shrimp. I bet it’s delish!

My son makes risotto balls using panko and I’m dying to try them, but since he burns himself every time he makes them I hate to ask.

The Wendy’s franchise holder in St. Louis went bankrupt a while ago and we don’t have Wendy’s anymore. The fish sandwich I got at Chic-Fil-A was kind of doughy and really disappointing since most of their stuff is pretty good. Culver’s has great fish, but it’s kind of expensive and usually more than I want, but the Walleye is really good. Burger King used to have fish. The closest one is very inconvenient, but they’ve always had fish in the past.

I like Long John Silver best for variety and value, and it tastes pretty good too. I used to love Red Lobster, but it’s gotten pretty expensive and the cost is greater than the taste now. I had tilapia in shrimp and lobster sauce, and the shrimp and lobster were pretty rubbery. I should remember to just get fried shrimp there. That’s usually pretty safe.

Let’s see, whole wheat crackers, a piece of cheddar cheese, a blood orange, a pear, and a bit of edamame.

Oooooh that sounds soooooo yummy!!!

I am having a frozen Salmon Patty (Whole Foods Market brand). I cook it in a frying pan. After I flip the first side, I cover the cooked side with fresh spinach, put a lid on it & let it wilt, then I top it with a bit of Mozzerella Cheese. Sauteed Mushrooms are a delicious topping as well. No bun because I am a low-carber;).

Some Mrs. T’s pierogies - with potato cheese filling, and corn. Just boiled with a little butter, salt and pepper. I typically like them sauted with onions, but I don’t have time for that during a week day.

Hard boiled eggs, salad and strawberry cake batter…YDD’s 5th birthday party is tomorrow, whadaya want from me, restraint?😉

Haven’t had lunch yet; I had a late breakfast. Around 10:30, after cleaning the upstairs and getting DS started on his math and doing letters with the littles, I realized I hadn’t eaten breakfast. I’ll probably have some guacamole (if the avocadoes are still any good) with chips.
