So where are the good Catholic girls?

This may sound like a silly question, but consider the source. I’m just graduating from a public high school in Orange County, CA, one of the most materialistic areas in the world. Not that it would have mattered going to Catholic school, I’ve been to several of their dances and know quite a few kids there from Church, and it’s really no better.

I’m active in the youth ministry at several churches, and I’m perfectly good friends with many Catholic girls. But none of them have really extracted themselves from modern culture, with a few exceptions. What’s more, though I don’t want to judge someone’s faith, from what I see and hear when I talk with them, most aren’t totally orthodox in their Catholicism. And of those exceptions, virtually none of them share my views on dating.

I’m sure it won’t help that I’m going to UC Berkeley for college. I don’t know what specifically my question if. I suppose I just want to be reassured that there are 18 year old girls in the world who care about the faith, who don’t mind attending Latin mass once in awhile, who accept the Church’s teachings on contraception…
 
Don’t worry - trust to God, he will send you the right girl at the right time - meaning when you’re ready as well as when she’s ready. Just as he sent Rebecca to water the camels for Abraham’s servant who was looking for a wife for Isaac.

Concentrate on your studies, have lots of good clean healthy fun to relax, and offer plenty of prayers (starting now) for your future wife, whoever she may be!

Sometimes the simplest answer is the best 🙂

Well, I’m 18, care about the faith and accept the Church’s teachings. Though I’ve never been to a Latin Mass. Would you accept having been to Mass in Europe and liking the altar rails?

There are Catholics in the world our age who are devout in the Faith. There’s just like 3 of us, though, from what I can see. Though seriously, you’ll find who God intends to help you get to Heaven. I happen to be taken, but surely I’m not the only girl in the world who meets the criteria.

Plus, I’ve never been to a Latin Mass [yet] so I don’t qualify.

Pray, ask for prayers from the Saints as well, and ask the Holy Spirit to look over your future bride. I’ll keep you in my prayers

If you can imagine my Mom and Dad growing up both in very Catholic families in an otherwise pretty much godless communist country in Eastern Europe. Difficult for both of them to meet good Catholic young people.

Imagine Dad, going on a summer holiday for a few weeks after finishing high school, leaving someone else in his family to do the paperwork to enrol him in the engineering course he wanted to do at University. Said paperwork is stuffed up and he ends up enrolled into medicine instead. For goodness knows what reason, I don’t think even he could tell you why, Dad decides to stick with medicine, where in his final year, koinkydink of koinkydinks, out of all the many first year medicine students there, he ends up tutoring Mom 😃

Exhibit B - another couple, friends of theirs. Half a world away in Sydney Australia, beginning of the swinging 60s, again a difficult time and place for good Catholic young people to get together. Both of them studying medicine (but they didn’t know each other through that) at the ONLY University in the whole city that has its own Catholic chapel, with daily Mass. The lady goes in there to pray, specifically that she meet a nice young Catholic boy to marry, and meets future husband there. 👍
 
With that attitude, God will definitely bring someone to you. 👍

There are certainly devout Catholic girls all over the place.

I myself had trouble finding the right one and I started looking out of my home town…however my gaze wasn’t meant to be there and I found someone who was right under my nose the entire time!

God works in mysterious ways, and His actions kind of sneak up on you.
When you’re ready, by His standards not ours, things will work out.

To give some more immediate advice, try looking under your nose (of course not literally!) someone may surprise you.
 
Yes, we do exist. 😃 Now, can you tell me where all the good Catholic boys went?
 
I love the Latin Mass, just graduated homeschool, don’t date (I court, and haven’t even done any of that yet), I am VERY against abortion, contraception, etc., and am in love with my faith…

Sound like I’ve got the same problem you have, but in reverse! There are no good Catholic guys around here… there are good guys mind you… but not good Catholic guys… they’re all protestant… 😑

Don’t loose heart though… we are around…

And God will always provide… He’s awesome that way!! 👍
 
I met my husband on Ave Maria Singles (the best online Catholic singles site ever…😃 ). He was from San Diego…I was from the Deep South.

Might want to look into it…👍

It’s not a pressing matter given my age, and I will certainly continue praying and trusting in the Lord, but that said it is certainly nice to know straight from the source that y’all do exist scattered about the nation 😉 Maybe the fact that God is putting me in those places where I’m least likely to find such a Catholic girl is his way of pushing me toward celibacy? Berkeley is probably the least Catholic-friendly college I could’ve picked, hehe. Oh well, plenty of time to think about that. Thanks again! 🙂
 
I think it is very easy to get discouraged when you are in an area where faith takes a back seat. It is not only difficult to find like minded people, it is difficult to stay grounded! Maybe after college you could move to a different area? In the meantime you might find a few people who share your views.

Who ever said she’ll be at your college??? xD My boyfriend and I met at a Catholic youth retreat. We never would have met, otherwise, because we live a 2 hour drive apart, and we’re attending different universities. If those sorts of events happen near your area (maybe not even very near, go on a road trip!), why not attend one or two? At the very least, it’ll be a spiritually fulfilling weekend. And you just might meet a good Catholic lady! 👍 Don’t forget about Sunday Mass. If there are any good Catholic women at your college, they’ll be there, too. 🙂
 
The fact are Catholics fail to really comprehend Jesus went to the cross in our place .He did this to offer us the free gift of forgiveness and assurance of heaven .Not like catholic and many other groups who think they can merit their own salvation by doing works .They place a burden on people that they can never over come . . OP: Good luck to you! Keep in mind that as some people grow older, they get a little wiser and start to understand some of the whys of faith that right now seem to not make sense. Many of us who were crazy in our late teens and early 20s do settle down. 😛

That’s EXACTLY what I thought. Honestly, you’ll have more problems than just finding a young lady at college. You are going to be bombarded with things contrary to the faith. If you can be “salt of the earth,” set a good example, and remain steadfast in your faith, then good for you. Know that it will be work, you won’t have very many affirming experiences. Are you up for that??

Maybe not now, though. I’ve heard that Berkeley is now very, very Asian and not at all like the 1960s Berkeley.
