So, where did this tradition of Easter Lillies come from?

Our pastor does not allow artificial flowers.
I never noticed the lilies in church having a scent.
I do dislike the ones I had in my garden years ago. Very strongly scented. But something must have eaten the bulbs underground, they are gone now.
 
It’s in the Song of Songs (OT) - the shepherd of the lilies.
Also it is the flower usually Archangel Gabriel holds and sometimes gives to Mary and symbolizes purity. It is also the flower symbol of Virgin Mary along with roses.

Or the bulbs were transplanted by a squirrel or other creature. My daffodils now occupy a hill down the road, and I am not the one that moved them
 
That’s too bad.

I am obsessed with fragrant flowers and if I had a chance to have a garden again, the flowers I would plant would overwhelm the garden with their perfume.
 
I like the incense (I actually am blessed to get to carry the Thurible and Incense Boat), though I totally get it making it hard to sing, plus we give teenagers several hundred to a thousand-degree piece of metal and billowing carcinogenic smoke and elementary aged kids open flames to carry around while wearing somewhat flowing robes, aren’t we awesome! (okay that was a little sarcastic and melodramatic, but you get my (or really Mark Heart’s point).
 
I hate the smell of lilies.

I sit near the back of the church to avoid being close to the plants. A week ago, I went to my parish’s 24/7 Adoration Chapel. It was full of plants and flowers, much more than usual. (There are always peace lilies in the chapel.)

Within a few minutes, i was sniffling and coughing and and felt my head stuff up. I left so that I would not disturb the other adorers, or make them afraid that they would catch something.

I’m really torn–I love adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in our Adoration Chapel, but I want to ask the parish office to please limit the number of plants in the chapel. It’s really awful to be kept away by plants, of all things!

But I’m afraid the parish will over-rule me, and tell me to wear a mask. Oh, well, that’s the way it goes, I guess.
