If the Roman Catholic church gave us the Bible,

Why were the two synods of Hippo (393 AD) and Carthage, (397 AD) under the control of what would later become the "orthodox church?

If the Catholic Church is the true church cannot be broken,
(Mat 16:18) why was there a split in the fifth century?

Why was there another split in 1054?

Why was the canon changed so many times before taking on its current form?

Why don’t the Orthodox and Roman churches have identical Bibles?

It was put together formally in the first century by John the Baptist. He founded the Christian Church and paved the way for Christ. When he Baptized Christ…Christ became the first Baptist. Due to the geographic location of many of John the Baptists follower they became known as Southern Baptists.

So…we now know who complied the bible and also the fact that the true apostolic church is Southern Baptist.

Forget swimming the Tiber…now you know to swim the Brazos to “New Jeruslam” on the Brazos (ie Baylor University). If you can’t swim Dr. Al Mohler will gladly receive you at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky (Calvinist). Come…home.

Wow! I never heard that before. Baptists claim their religion goes back before Pentecost?

Southern Baptists? Do they come from southern Israel? Where have you been keeping this ‘history’? Baylor?

Now, you mean to tell me that you were a Cathollic? And you fell into this heresy. How can you comment on any doctrine of Catholicism, and come up with this Myth about how the Southern Baptism Church was personally founded by John the Baptist, and Jesus was the first Baptist.

John was beheaded before 33 A.D., and put together this Bible. You are totally neglecting history, and archeology.

John the Baptist put the Bible together before the Gospels were written, and before St. Paul showed up on the scene. St.John the Baptist is my Patron saint, but he was beheaded before Christ died. You are attributing to the Baptist more than you are attributing to Jesus.

And your problem with Catholicism was with Mariology?

Far out, man!

Hi,
Im just curious…
Since some of the people on this forum do not think the bible is the word of God, who do you think wrote the bible?
The Bible is a compilation of traditional writings, first of the Judeans (“old testament”) and later of the faction of Christians who would come to be known as ‘orthodoxy’. The various books were written by various people, though often not by the people to whom they are attributed. I do not think, for instance, that ‘Moses’ is a historical person, or that the Exodus is a historical event. The Torah is, itself, a compilation of various oral lore preserved in various ways.

The Torah seems to have reached its current form some little while before its translation into greek as what’s called the Septuagint. The septuagint is from 250 bce or so, and represents the final triumph of monotheistic yahwehism in Judea.

New Testament books also have various authors, many spuriously attributed. The NT as we have it is the selection made by the (to be called) orthodox faction, out of the hundreds of books and tractates floating around the first centuries of the Christian movement.

So the answer is, in short, “lots of people”. The final form and order of the books is a political thing, the result of various social and doctrinal pressures. None of it requires any special inspiration from the divine to accomplish.

We ought to pair you up with Rev. Dr. North, and you could write a great book together. Better yet, you and he could claim to be the authors of the Pentateuch and the New Testament, the Epistles and the book of Revelations.

In a word, ‘gettouttahere’!

Hi

How correct have your written the above passage! Definitely GodAllahYHWH has not compiled it, except for some sentences quoted from Jesus that God spoke to him and said to him such and such words the rest has been written by “lots of people” and without inspiration. The word inspiration has been used by the clergy perhaps to provide a cover to give it a sanctity, as far as I can think.

Others could differ, no compulsion.

Thanks

According to Rev. North and the Baptists, John the Baptist wrote the New Testament.

Dear readers,
If you didn’t recognize this as a joke, and/or didn’t at least get an internal smile, you’re taking yourself WAY too seriously.

Sweetheart, the ROMAN CATHOLIC Church didn’t give us the bible…the CATHOLIC CHURCH gave us the bible…the Orthodox were, and many still are PART of the Catholic Church…and those who are seperated can still validly claim apostolic succession.

Matthew 16 Doesn’t declare there will not be splits in the Church, where did you get that idea. People ALWAYS seem to misread “The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it” That doesn’t mean that hell won’t conquer the Church…it means the Church should be asaulting the gates of hell…hell is on the defense…the Church, even with it’s human frailties as demonstrated by our various “splits” are on the OFFENSIVE against hell, and in the end we will pummel down the very gates of hell.

Hippo and Carthage? I’m not sure where you got the idea that Hippo and Carthage were not Catholic Counsels

The Canon of Scripture has changed since the Church set it? Really? When…I know there were long discussions over more than 4 centuries, but once the canon was set, it hasn’t changed.

Yes i do agree some people did take the old rev a bit too seriously on this one…

Yerusalyim,

Quote Y: “ROMAN CATHOLIC Church didn’t give us the bible…the CATHOLIC CHURCH gave us the bible…the Orthodox were, and many still are PART of the Catholic Church…and those who are seperated can still validly claim apostolic succession

Why do they not hold to all the same Traditions? Why do Orthodox deny the supremacy of the Pope? Why do they deny that Peter was the first pope of Rome? Why don’t they believe in purgatory?

Quote Y: "Matthew 16 Doesn’t declare there will not be splits in the Church, where did you get that idea. People ALWAYS seem to misread “The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it” "

It is RC’s that have repeatedly told me Mat 16 means exactly that.

Quote Y: “That doesn’t mean that hell won’t conquer the Church.…it means the Church should be asaulting the gates of hell…hell is on the defense…the Church, even with it’s human frailties as demonstrated by our various “splits” are on the OFFENSIVE against hell, and in the end we will pummel down the very gates of hell.

This is the first time I’ve heard a Catholic explain it that way.

Quote Y: “Hippo and Carthage? I’m not sure where you got the idea that Hippo and Carthage were not Catholic Counsels

That is not what I said. Hippo and Carthage were under the control of what later become the Orthodox church - not the RC.

Quote Y: “The Canon of Scripture has changed since the Church set it? Really? When…I know there were long discussions over more than 4 centuries, but once the canon was set, it hasn’t changed.”

Then why aren’t the Bibles exactly the same?

the bible was written by a bunch of people. some are obscure and unknown. most of the new testament were written by paul, or through his influence.

Part of our differences is that they deny Christ placed ONE Apostle ahead of the others. Their understanding is that a group of bishops holds as much authority as St Peter (The Pope.)

However, the plain reading of the text clearly identifies Peter as being The Rock upon which the church is built. Proper, detailed examination of NTScriptures also bares this out, notably, the council in Jerusalem and the decision on circumcision, etc. Just as Peter is the only one continually ‘tested’ and ‘questioned’ by Christ about his faith and love for Him, so that he could lead the flock.

Not quite correct. The councils were under the control of The (Roman) Catholic church. The one who departed, is now known as The Orthodox church, due to their dissention in understanding of the passages above and the AUTHORITY given to Peter. The one that remained has become known as The (Roman) Catholic church, because that is where the Seat of Peter is!

Quote Y: “The Canon of Scripture has changed since the Church set it? Really? When…I know there were long discussions over more than 4 centuries, but once the canon was set, it hasn’t changed.”

Then why aren’t the Bibles exactly the same?

Like the Reformation Bible(s), the Ethiopian Bible, the Syriac and Coptic Bibles, the Quran and even the Talmud, what occurs later after the councils cannot be laid at their feet as ‘blame’ or accussations. One of the reasons the councils were convened was precisely because there were so many ‘letters’ books gospels and scrolls in existence at the time, all lauding to be of Christ, including some of the books and ‘Bibles’ listed here.

Now we have people arguing from the Quran which was some 400 years afterwards, and they say, ‘This is in the Quran, but NOT in The Bible, so the Bible is false!’ Same as the Reformers who were about a thousand years later, yet laud the ‘later version’ as being more truthful, than the original!

Over time there is a thought that every Bible is acceptable and will accord salvation to their respective followers and there is no longer an objective Truth. Every ‘Bible’ has salvific Truth! How can that be when they differ so much?

So the question is, Which one is actually the correct Bible for the Christian to follow? The evidence is clear and not hidden, but people aren’t interested in evidence. They want the interpretation that suits them! Unfortunately, although all things belong to God, there can be only One Truth, because that is what He said.

Apologies about the “quoting” buttons! I’ll get the hang of it, eventually.

You have it all wrong.
The bible was first written by John Bible, a Northern Baptist.
John forgot to copyright the name and it was taken by so many churches over the centuries. He hopes to recoup those losses by putting out home movies of interviews with the apostles.
Be sure to look for them in your nearest WalMart in December.
The price hasn’t been set yet so as to gouge as many as possible before they see the light.
Jesus saves at WalMart.
That’s Jesus (pronounced Hey- Zeus ) Bible, John’s cousin.
