The wording on some of those was C-R-A-Z-Y. I was trying to figure out what they were trying to say half of the time.

I got the archbishop one wrong too. :confused:

So was I.

I think that a more fair test would not have any “none of the above” choices, and the correct answer should be the formula that we memorize for Catechism. That way, those who know their Catechism would get 100%, and those who don’t would know what they need to study. 😛

But it’s not a Catechism test; it’s an Apologetics test.

A better Apologetics test would have questions that non-Catholics typically ask, and then “Choose the best answer” among four - but no “none of the above” answers. OR, how about this - list four information sources, and tell which of the four is most likely to have the answer to that particular question (the Catechism, the GIRM, the Code of Canon Law, the Bible, or an Encyclical or pastoral letter of the Pope, and which one). Also, identify whether it is a disciplinary, doctrinal, cultural, or moral question.

However… Personally, I think Karl Keating got the answer key wrong. Question 5: **Holy Communion may be taken by…

**The answer key said “C” I think it should be “E” none of the above.

I thought Holy communion was RECEIVED not TAKEN??? Of course… I’m just a silly protestant… so what do I know. 🙂

I got 17 right. Like the others there were a couple that the wording tripped me up. I missed 9, 13, and 15. Fifteen, I have no excuse on (who died on the cross). I just flat wasn’t thinking, even though I know this one. Nine, I wasn’t sure on (the one on the archbiship). Thirteen was tricky. Why is the correct answer b when we know that if a woman does not have marital relations and is taking the pill for a medical problem it is ok? If that is the case then I don’t see how we can see no matter what the circumstances.
 
16/20. I missed the Archbishop one and a couple of the nature of Jesus ones (trinity and God died on the cross.) For some reason I flutter between Modalism and Pelagianism in trying to grasp the details of the nature(s) of the Trinity and Christ.

16 :o - for the same reason as you; one keeps seeing shades of meaning which throw the answer off enough to make a crucial difference; of the four, one was completely wrong: I was very surprised by the answer.​

I wonder if our mistakes were the same 🙂 ?

  • the Archbishop - and
  • the consecration one :o - the wording = horrid
  • the confession one - same reason: the ambiguous wording
  • the Purgatory one - that wording is really confusing => dodgy (IMNHO)
    A :hides head in shame: smiley would be nice. It would probably be animated ##

I’ve actually heard several sources besides Mr. Keating that refer to the host being taken. So, it actually isn’t a mistake.

I got the Archbishop one wrong, and like Sabda, I just wasn’t thinking about “Who died on the cross.” I also got the Sister question wrong. I didn’t think her being a lay person sounded right…:o

My wife got 20/20,she was shocked that I scored so low as she said the only reason she did so well was cuz she would listen to me talk after my RCIA classes.Maybe I just rushed through it,I also found the wording a bit trickey.
 
**18 correct, missed the two through ignorence on my part, I’ll not try to argue my answers.
 
I missed 9 and 14.
9 because I had no idea what an Archbishop does.
14 because I had no idea what the precepts of the church were.

I knew the precepts of the Church and yearly confession is one of them, although the question said it’s only needed if you have commited a mortal sin, so my answer was wrong. I’m not positive but that question is debatable, I always thought minimum yearly confession was needed regardless as a precept of the Church. But I guess another answer was “more correct”.

:yup: Me too. But I do think it was helpful because often times when talking to people I “sense” that their words are not quite right but I can’t nail down where or what the problem is with their explanation of what they* think, *are Catholic beliefs.

Quizzes like this I think help sharpen our “listening” skills and really analyze EXACTLY what is being said especially since most who would say the incorrect versions are not going to be quoting Catechism definitions.

But on average, most here on these forums scored better than those who originally took the test. Even my low score:o for a practicing Catholic was higher than the average of those who the test was sprung on. Good job all!

When I sprang this quiz on an audience of well-informed Catholic business leaders and their spouses, few got more than half the questions right, and that was with some sub rosa “sharing” by test-takers. The high score was seventeen right out of twenty, and that was a very good score indeed. Some people got only a third right.

I have always heard that yearly confession is NOT required. It is recieving communion at Easter time that is required. And if you have gone a whole year with confession, you need to go to confession before you recieve. (But I guess that is still up for debate, you may not of commited mortal sin the whole year)
