HAHA thought I might get your attention with that! Actually my title is derived from the fact I am literally shoveling ashes out of my bra. AND my nose, eyes, ears, shirt, hairline, etc…you name it. Yes, I live in Southern California and I am at the coast between 6 of the 7 big wildfires today…

We are about 20 miles from the big Malibu fire, but I think most of our ash is coming from the fires North-East of us – as that is the way the wind blows today…

Anyway, it’s a weird day, it smells like we are residing in a campfire. It’s literally snowing ashes – as my bra, my kids, even my dogs can attest to! It looked like a zombie movie outside this afternoon…here are some pics at the worst of it, taken at 2:45PM PST:

The white spots in the photo are ash, not a dirty lens, BTW.

Prayers to everyone who is evacuating and to everyone who has lost so much today. Big prayers to the Presbyterian Church which lost it’s chapel this morning.

Just thought I would share and try to add some humor, it’s pretty bad around here right now…

Cute title…but it’s starting to get kinda scary here in San Diego county.

We have two wildfires burning right now out in the east part of the county. They’ve started announcing school closures - some due to the fire, but also some due to the bad air quality caused by the smoke.

For those of you in San Diego County, please keep your ears tuned to local TV and radio. They say that because of our weather conditions, it may become worst than the Cedar Fire that occurred in 2004. Fire bombers and aircraft are ready to go, but due to the high winds and low visibility due to smoke, they cannot go up and fight these fires. The fire up north is already going into residential areas. Please be safe!

For those of you outside San Diego county and Southern California in general - please pray for us!

Our sympathy and prayers. Contact the angels, especially for protection and for rain! They have charge of the weather, too.

Oh my! 😦 That is sooo scary! I will pray for a safe end to these horrible fires. I second the idea to pray to the Holy Angels: “Holy Angels, bless and protect us and all in Southern California from the fires.” Another prayer known for its efficacy against storms is the Divine Mercy Chaplet. I also pray it in very windy situations and you might want to pray it in your fire situation. I will pray it today for protection of all those in the fire zone, especially those of you here on CAF who live there.

Please pray for all of us in San Diego and Southern California! DH and I are packing up now. My mom and several friends have already had to evacuate. The fire got a lot worse over night, and they say it will continue to grow a lot.

I’m scared because I’m pregnant that all the smoke might harm the baby.

Pray for all those at Catholic Answers too! They’re right in the middle of it all.

It was like that yesterday where I live too, KC. There was a fire in NP. Rabbit Hill burned. So, I think for us, that made yesterday worse.

The building I work in has no AC, so we usually have the windows open. I walked in this morning the floor inside was strewn with dry leaves and debris blown in. People are wearing scarves over their faces.

Today is a little more clear, but the wind is relentless. I saw lots and lots of downed trees, some snapped in half.

My sister in San Diego was evacuated. They went to a friend’s house, then that house was evacuated. Now they are at another friend’s house and that one is likely to be evacuated. They may end up in Qualcomm Stadium. She said it is like all of San Diego is on fire.

I have a light on one of those timers that turns on at dusk and stays on for a set number of hours. It turned on around 3:30pm on Sunday. I think it must have been smoke from the Moorpark and Santa Rosa Valley fires.

There have been lots of little fires all over the place. Fortunately most of them have been put out fairly quickly. Unfortunately it’s still blowing out there and the big fires are still spreading. It’s clearer today where I live but the smoke smell is everywhere.

The wind gusts yesterday were incredible. I know in many places they were greater than 73 miles an hour (hurricane force winds). I’ve seen lots of downed trees. Cars are weaving in and out of lanes to avoid the larger downed branches. I’ve experienced Santa Ana (transliteration for Santana) winds my whole life but these gusts are some of the most extreme that I can remember.

But I feel fortunate that the worst that has happened here was a vent cap that blew off some flue on top of the house and some potted plants and patio chairs that tipped over.

I feel fortunate too. I live right in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. There is a huge sign that says WARNING EXTREME FIRE DANGER at the foot of the road that leads up to my house. The worst I have is that my gate blew off my fence.

My sister lives right on the Poway/Rancho Bernardo line in a very suburban area that I would think would be far less likely to burn. From what I have seen on internet websites her whole neighborhood is engulfed in flames. I feel so bad too, they were just up at my house this weekend, totally helping out with the division of community property following my divorce. They totally went over and beyond, and it is just breaking my heart to think that they have now gone back and might not even have a home.

My prayers are with them Mary, this is so hard. Let me know how they fair, and their house fairs too.

The winds have started again (as you noticed I am sure) and I keep hearing sirens. I am so concerned for everyone. I am going to go watch a bit of news upstairs. Penelope has control of TV again since it’s the Dora/Diego hour, and she’s not going to have me changing it from Dora I tell ya! LOL

I just hope the power stays on. I really do.

Well, we just got called to evacuate. Please pray for us! We’re right in the Scripps ranch/poway/Rancho Bernardo area.

All the ash makes one think of Pompei and Herculaneum before the end!

There is a prayer that used to be prayed at after daily Mass from the Feast of St. Mark on to the Triumph of the Cross for good weather and protection from the demonic powers. In this case it would seem appropriate.

A priest should have a relic of the true Cross. It begins, “a fugure, grandine et tempestate”, libera nos, Domine Jesu Christe."

Man! At least around here the sky turns green before an impending disaster… and it’s over in a few hours (tornados)… not weeks! This is something that won’t end until there’s no more fuel or some rain.

Get outta there. Take what you can’t lose/replace, all the food/water & staples you can pack out and find shelter!

I’m OK as far as fires are concerned – air quality on the other hand - Dh and I have both had sores open up INSIDE our nostrils from the wind/smoke/ash combo and lack of humidity (3% here). I’m coughing, he’s sneezing, the kids seem fine, and I am saying thankful prayers for the fact none of us have asthma or lung disease.

Ducclisima is who I am concerned for, one of the fires that started this afternoon crossed the county line and the winds are blowing it her direction. We should keep her in our prayers.

I’m fine. I guess I haven’t kept up to date. Which fire crossed the county line? I’m guessing the Malibu one, but last I heard it was not so out of control as the one in North San Diego County. I’ve just been worrying about my sister.

We’re at a friends house now. I think we’ll be okay, but then again the Witch fire spread very quickly last night. The scary thing is that the fire is completely surrounding us, so there’s not really many ways to get out. A lot of the freeways are closed. That being said, the area that isn’t on fire is still pretty big, so I think we’ll be okay.

Just so scary! Please continue to keep us in your prayers.
