I have been possibly dealing with Scrupulosity lately and I was wondering if anyone could give me guidance as if something is a sin or not. Also, some advice on how to deal with Scrupulosity would be helpful! I have been trying to grow in my faith and today I wore a Miraculous Medal. My friend came up to me, whom I tend to feel sort of awkward around, and she is Catholic but does not agree with all the practices. I was nervous as to if she would notice my medal and judge me or ask/say something about it, and so anxiety got the better of me and i tried to hide that I was wearing it. If she would’ve asked something, I would not have denied my faith nor denied my love for God, as that is something I don’t think I could ever do. But is me trying to hide it out of fear of judgement a sin? Or could it be mortal? Help is appreciated as I did not have the intent to hurt God by doing this.

If it is it’d probably be Venial at the worst.
But, to help scruples, learn what actually constitutes a mortal sin.
Focus on the mercy of God.

You should see a priest or spiritual director for your scrupulosity. It’s true there could be sin in hiding your faith, but as Kei wrote it could only be venial at worst.

Also, a basic primer on friendship. Friends do not have to agree with each other on everything, however, in order to qualify as a “friend” you must respect the other person. If this person would mock you, they are not your friend.

Please entrust yourself to a good priest. The cure for scrupulosity is not more rules it’s trusting good and holy people.
