There is an enormous amount of fraud in the system – I know people with “bad backs” who draw disability and also work for cash at jobs that require a healthy back. And, yes, I turn them in – and nothing happens.

That’s your opinion, is it? I’ll archive that.

In the meantime, I’ll point out (for about the thousandth time) that I see many people demanding programs that other people must pay for, but I never see anyone saying, “I’ll have to work harder, so I can pay my share.”

While I am loathe to respond to the likes of you, I feel it necessary to defend what I intended to say.

You obviously and intentionally ignored my 😉 underneath this statement (which means I wasn’t being serious). Do you know what it means: false witness.

I’ll confess to irony in my statement, though. Will you confess to false witness?

Somehow, I seriously doubt you will because you can never do wrong (oops, there’s that irony again!).

I think the terms for what you are doing is cyberbully.

But in 42 pages of no one has yet responded to it. They just get upset when ya try to nail them down on it and stomp out.

Not one time has ANYONE said the poor are lazy. But I’ll say this, if that applies to someone, anyone, why is it wrong to call it out?

Not every one will appeal to everyone.

Some folks who belong art associations are not artists; they just like to help out with the behind the scenes grunt work of setting up and doing all the paperwork needed to keep a program running smoothly. Some of the non-artists (and artists) help out by organizing bus trips. One Catholic parish near us has both a theater group and an art association. They put on fantastic presentations and need huge numbers of volunteers for everything from painting flats for sets to getting everything torn down in time for school to resume on the Monday.

Every professional organization has annual meetings, some of which are extremely elaborate; there is an army of people working behind the scenes to make it flow smoothly. There are Expo’s in every major city. It is possible to get a free ticket just by asking around. Wonderful opportunity to see new stuff and meet new people.

Every one of them is an opportunity to both meet people and to help out.

Not every group or every meeting is going to produce lifetime or intimate relationships. But there are large numbers of opportunities to meet new people and see how other people relate to one another. It’s fun just to watch. Important to see how other people relate to learn how to develop social skills and public manners.

Most everybody I know has been involved with one thing or another. And made friends outside of work that way.

thank’s for the advice. I doubt many people my age would be doing some of those things. Many of the posts on this thread have come from the position that people aren’t working hard, or long enough, which leaves little time. I was used to the kind of interaction you get at school and university but that seems almost impossible now. I’m probably just very immature 😛

Well, you do seem to take the position that work should be measured in calories or hours.😛

Remember, a prize bull will earn a lot of money for a few minutes “work.” It isn’t the time he spends, but the importance of what he does.😉

My post was in response to a complaint that another poster made that he couldn’t talk to people at work and had no other way of meeting people socially.
 
Scrap this insane income tax for the sales tax. The income tax is always going to cause a complaint from one side or the other. A flat amount would be decidedly regressive and too high a percentage takes out of the economy. With the sales tax people get what they pay for and if they choose to be frugal with little money they can keep the majority of their income from Uncle Sam just as easily as the rich folks. Seems fair to me. Then with that flat percentage we can really tell whether Uncle Sam is raising or lowering taxes while still providing all the basic services such as healthcare for those who can’t afford it.

Almost everyone works below potential. Most of the people who you might regard as paying their share are still not working as long or hard as they could be (however much each share should be, again undefined, equal cash contribution?). Where is the problem? Please don’t whip this out again

when you’ve been asked several times as to whether 8-5’ers, or perhaps even the 50 hour guys, fit into this ‘couch-potato’ category and refused to answer (a yes or no would do). Who are the couch potatoes, specifically? Not what they *do, *or refuse to do, but who are they.

The problem is people who clamor for programs and expect someone else to pay the freight. And never say, “***I ***should work harder, so I can pay **my **share.”

Lazy people clamor for someone else to pay the freight, and never look to themselves to earn and pay more.
