Yet again, I’m not quite sure where this goes. I ask a moderator to please move it to a more suitable category if need be. Thank you.

This may have already been discussed … I don’t know. But I’ve just come across it and I think it is really important. Really, REALLY important. What I’d like to see here in this thread is a review of the article and NON-DEBATE discussion to follow. I simply do not have the physical health to be arguing with people.
Our culture is reaching a tipping point of momentous implications where the “New Spirituality” may well represent the next phase of the faith and practice of modern autonomous humanity, whose goal is nothing less than the construction of a new Sodom and Babel.
The New Spirituality
Dismantling and Reconstructing Reality
Peter R. Jones

The author views the modern times as a time of a resurgence of Paganism in its eternal conflict with Catholicism.

The cloud has become a tsunami; the Sixties’ sexual liberation was not a mere dream of hippies who had opted out of public life. In fact, in a long march through the institutions, the “Flower Power” children cleaned themselves up and became the “establishment” them-selves. **They have demonized the patriarchal society of Western and biblical civilization as the greatest expression of human evil, and replaced it with a radical egalitarianism that knows no gender roles and believes that the murder of unborn babies is not only settled law but vital to the emancipation of women. (4) In one generation, this sexual liberation has become public policy. **The ideas behind these social changes are deeply and spiritually pagan-as even a cursory examination of Romans 1:18-28 will show.

As for the references to Sodom and Babel:

Sodom is explained in the footnote to the New American Bible, Genesis 18:20.
  • [18:20] The immorality of the cities was already hinted at in 13:13, when Lot made his choice to live there. The “outcry” comes from the victims of the injustice and violence rampant in the city, which will shortly be illustrated in the treatment of the visitors. The outcry of the Hebrews under the harsh treatment of Pharaoh (Ex 3:7) came up to God who reacts in anger at mistreatment of the poor (cf. Ex 22:21–23; Is 5:7). Sodom and Gomorrah became types of sinful cities in biblical literature. Is 1:9–10; 3:9 sees their sin as lack of social justice, Ez 16:46–51, as disregard for the poor, and Jer 23:14, as general immorality. In the Genesis story, the sin is violation of the sacred duty of hospitality by the threatened rape of Lot’s guests.
Babel is explained thus in Genesis 11:1-9.
  • [11:1–9] This story illustrates increasing human wickedness, shown here in the sinful pride that human beings take in their own achievements apart from God. Secondarily, the story explains the diversity of languages among the peoples of the earth.
Both situations mirror society’s movement away from God and towards a more pagan attitude of humanism. Both should serve as lessons about God’s judgment upon this movement.

Well, look at San Francisco, they are pretty close to what Sodom was, as in all kinds of sexual activity, homosexual behavior especially, is openly accepted and even encouraged here, but there is probably lots of other US cites that have this attitude as well, but San Fran kind of stands out and is known for their homosexual community.

Furthermore, if you really look at it, the US in general is almost the poster child for immoral lifestyles, love of money is very prevalent here, people dont care about each other anymore, only about themselves, their money, their huge homes, expensive cars, etc. We are almost the only nation where people work work work all the time, every day of the week, night and day, everyday! Most other countries do not work 40 hours a week, they take months for vacation each year, some cities, the entire town takes off work at certain times just to spend time with family. Plus I just heard on the news, some European country enacted a new law that NO work phone calls, emails can be made or viewed after 6pm…this is actually going to be enforced too!

My point is, the US seems to only care about money and material items, maybe we are the problem?

Question.

**Do people feel there is a risk of religion (moral authority) losing significance in the world? **

I’ve read some more and I’m not happy about this. I do not see homosexual equality in the world, but something nearing closer to homosexual favoritism and privilege.

There are now laws, in the United States and elsewhere, that are “banning” the use of words: mother, father, husband, wife.

Mother and Father are being replaced by the word “parent”.

Am I the only person who sees this as homosexual privilege, and the violation of natural law?
