Hopefully as you can see, based upon the “Christian” responses you’ve received, just how distant their answers are in relation to what scripture, and the biblical and contextual facts surrounding it present the sin of Sodom as being. And contary to what is obviously a popular error on the part of such “Christians”, the sin of Sodom was not homosexuality. Not even a little!
This would be a good time to:
a) back up your statement with Scriptural text.
b) refute the Scripture that has been produced. What is “not homosexual” about men wanting to do intimate things with other males?

Also, do you reject that Paul chastises homosexuality in Romans, as well?

Genesis Ch. 19

Can it get more clear than that? The men of Sodom wanted to rape the male angels, i.e. sodomy.

God Bless
As I begin to make an example out of you, I hope that it will continue to be obvious to members who read this forum, the extent to which such passages of scripture have been mutilated and ripped from the contextual facts that accompany the Sodom account. Your post above only highlights and exemplifies the biblical ignorance and the distorted prespective that many religious authorties conveniently maintain, and will soon no longer be able to get away with!

And according to Genesis, what do you gather the men of Sodom wanted to do to Lot?

Behavior? Where in the Genesis passage concerning Sodom and Gomorrah is this “homosexual behavior”, of which you mentioned, described?
The term “abomination” appears in that passage, and as others have shown, the thrust of that story includes homosexual behavior. In scripture, “abomination” refers to cultic error and often equates idolatry with adultery and also with homosexual acts.

Homosexual acts cannot be excluded from the list of things “abominable” to God as seen in Scripture.

Gn 1:27 - complementarity of sexes reflects God’s inner unity
Gn 2:21-24 - transmission of life through total self-donation - one flesh
Gn 19 - original sin deteriorates to Sodom’s sin, destroyed
Lv18:22 - called abomination, cut off from people (v.29)
Lv 20;13 - both shall be put to death for abominable deed
Rom 1;27 - called unnatural, shameful, and a perversity
1Cor 6:9 - active homosexuals won’t inherit kingdom of God
1Tim 1:9-10 - those who engage in such acts called sinners

Using your words you claim that “homosexual behavior” is an “abomination”. Once again I will ask, where does the Genesis account refer to “homosexual behavior”?

If you want to skim the surface of particular bible translations, fine continue on. However as any Christian will tell you, you cannot turn a blind eye to the original languages and context of Scripture itself! Well, you could, but then you’re reduced to your post above.

Others on this thread have shown the homosexual content of the Sodom story. Are you suggestng by this question that homosexual desires alone qualify as “abominations”? Or are you suggesting that the rest of Scripture should not weigh into the discussion?

Perhaps, taken in isolation, the Sodom passage could not support a verdict against homosexuality. But taken together with other passages in Scripture (not to mention the force of natural law), the case is clear.

You tell me, another poster said it was the men of Sodom’s “homosexual behavior” that was the “abomination”, So you’re suggesting now that it wasn’t thier “homosexual behavior”, especially given the fact that the Genesis passage mentions none, and that now it was their “homosexual desires”, that was the abomination. Which is it?

We are actually confusing two things and talking about two things. The illustrative story of Sodom tells us that something “abominable” that includes attempted homosexual behavior.

Catholics do not hold the desire to be sinful, only the action.

Attempting the action crosses the line from desire into action. Your words, “Once again I will ask, where does the Genesis account refer to “homosexual behavior”?” might have been interpreted as suggesting that you believed the mere desire would be “abominable.”

So you think this incident with the angels was the first time?

All the men of Sodom showed up and wanted to have sex with these men b/c they ALL just decided, THAT NIGHT, that sex with men would be a good idea?

Come on!

The passage clearly is meant to show us that homosexuality was common practice in Sodom, ALL the men showed up. That is why Sodom was destroyed.

God Bless

To support your argument, don’t forget that God couldn’t find ten righteous people in Sodom. Ten righteous people!

BTW, regarding Abraham talking God down from 50 people to 10, this is the first incident of the term “Jewing them down”.😉

I have to disagree. Sodomy is a sexual activity that is condemned in the Bible. Although it is a primary behavior in the practice of homosexuality, it is not relegated to it. It is widely practiced in heterosexuality. It is condemned as a sexual perversion because it is not open to the transmission of life. Like rape, it is an act of submission and violence.

Well you’re right. It’s an abomination for the reasons you presented. But if all they wanted to do was sodomize someone, why didn’t they accept Lot’s daughters!

Evidently the saying, “Any port in a storm will do” did not apply to those in Sodom! 🙂

So what you are slowly admitting to is what I have been saying all along, namely that the passages in Genesis, do not describe any type of “homosexual behavior”. Is this correct?

First off, your use of the term “sodomize” is an unscriptual, preconceived invention of men. In fact, the actual Sodom story pre-dates that word by nearly 5000 years. Your use of it, especially in reference to the passage in Genesis, brings with it the tainted exploits of the Traditions of men centuries later. So you can keep that!

“Or better yet, why didn’t the crowd accept each other? Or consider this even, what would an entire city want from two angelic outsiders that they couldn’t provide to each other.”

Your attempts are futile. They will only lead you back to what the Sins of Sodom actually were. And as you will soon learn, “homosexuality” was not one of them. And what’s more you will come to realize that even the details within scripture itself, make such a notion impossible.

And according to you, what was the “worse” thing the mob was going to do to Lot, as recounted in Gen 19:9?

However you still evaded my original question, which was "where in the Genesis passage is “homosexual behavior” described?

Are you arguing that because the men did not actually have sex with the angels that it was only a ‘perceived homosexual intent’ on their part. . .and so you argue it wasn’t ‘behavior?’
