Too soft? You don’t like getting out of your comfort zone. You tend to take things to heart. You don’t roll with the punches. You tend to like reflecting and analysing rather than taking life as it comes. But you have some capacity for understanding others’ pain. Now and then, you show glimpses of kindness and compassion towards your neighbour.
Too tough? You roll with the punches easily. You like challenges which test your confidence. Your career is full of promise. You impress other people at work, especially your boss. And you might even have his job one day. But you take a hard line towards other people with little self-discipline and determination to succeed like you do. Compassion is not your favourite word. Its used by people who aren’t trying hard enough. “Sorry I don’t do empathy. let someone else take care of that.”
I’ve heard it said that Christians need to be soft and tough. Tough enough to handle challenges life throws you and soft enough to feel compassion.
Do you have both?
