One web site sent me an email to sign a petition to stop full frontal nudity and swearing on prime time TV. I believe the censors will start allowing it next year or so. If I didn’t delete it I will post it.

Yes, if we don’t speak up and email the shows that are going overboard things will only get worse and we won’t be able to see any programs suited for families.

When we went to the Catholic Family Conference they had a lady from Hollywood who wrote scripts for more family orientated shows. She said the first thing each morning these writers do is read their email. They do take thing seriously if more people complain.

My hubby was insulted by a local commercial that showed a scantily clad young woman that had nothing to do with the product and he wrote to them. Soon the commercial was taken off. Not sure if it helped but we can try.

Live and let live? I hope there is another way to address this topic.

People decide what to put on TV based on what is watched. If nobody watches a show, it will be pulled. That is why I simply advise not watching, and possibly encouraging others not to watch.

If it appears in a show that you LOVE, (which is not what we’re talking about, but it could happen), I would suggest emailing the people who make it and telling them how much you love the show and how much you hate the changes. Individual emails, not petitions- which would you pay more attention to, 10,000 emails or a petition with 10,000 signatures?

Those are pretty much the only reasonable ways to show one’s concern, IMO.

I have two family members (BIL and SIL) who work for well known networks. One as a writer/producer and the other in marketing and distribution. That is exactly the way it works. If the show gets low ratings, its off the air. If certain episodes of a well liked show get low ratings, which is unusual, they look at the script and try to figure out why that episode was watched by less people. If emails, petitions, focus groups, etc. determine the episode was unpopular because of subject matter they will avoid that subject matter in future shows.

Another way to make your pro-Christian lifestyle preference known is to get out there and buy! My SIL began marketing Christian movies and DVD’s here in the US. The company determined that there wasn’t a very large market here for those movies and DVD’s and began sending her to Latin American and South American countries because of her language skills. Unfortunately, there was less of a market there than anticipated and the Christian movies and music department was all but closed while the action adventure and romantic comedy departments flourish. Naturally, this would lead execs to believe there isn’t much of an audience for that type of more moral programming. Money talks. Spend it on what you’d like to see more of!

Other than that, I do agree with the live and let live philosophy. The fact is that there are an awful lot of people that see nothing wrong with partial nudity, cursing, sexual situations and so on that regularly watch those shows OP disapproves of and as long as there is a viewing audience the shows will continue to be aired.

I end up watching the decorator shows, news and travel shows.

My sister is hooked on a soap opera. I am going to spend the week with her and I can’t stand the one she tapes and watches—the one with Luke and Laura. I end up laughing at them and saying who would think to do such a thing? They all seem not to have a brain. But she is hooked and has to watch it, then talk to her friend like they are real people. I was determined never to get hooked on a soap opera a long time ago and I didn’t.
