Oh, I know. In the other thread:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=4195336#post4195336

he gave me the following fallacies in logic:

*Begging the question. *He gave me some Bible verses, but his interpretation assumed his premise that scripture is the sole rule of faith. Nothing in the verses supported it.

*Argumentum ad ignorantium. *The notion that if I can’t disprove his statement that scripture is the sole rule of faith, it must be true.

*Non sequitur. *An incomplete syllogism:
Scripture is inspired and inerrant.
Therefore, only scripture is inspired and inerrant.

If he’s got something new to offer, I’d like to see it.
Actually, I’d like to see “anything of substance” beyond the standard “rhetoric”…😃

I think it is clear he is not here to ask sincere questions about the Catholic faith, but only to make attempts to evangelize us to his Reformed tradition. 🤷
Sadly, he is an extremely poor judge of character and knows precious little about the nature of Catholics and our beliefs.

Calvinism is heresy in an almost prurient form.

But I do wonder what “they” do where the members of their churches commit the same crimes and errors? Look the other way? Pretend it didn’t happen? Accept the lie that is presented?
Get dunked again? Pretend to be one of the 3 monkeys?
NO, no, none of that! Just go start another “church”

I find it interesting that you (all) do not recognize the authority of the Catholic Church to arbitrate, and yet, you still find fault with how the arbitration is conducted.

You are wrong about abortion. The act in itself triggers excommunication. This is the Church teaching.
Would this apply to John Kerry, Pelosi and Kennedy?

But the difference is this, something you fail to grasp: The Roman Catholic Church has ONE set of teachings. So we are not in the same position as “Protestants” (noting herein that you used the word first )

Many Protestant churches also have “ONE set of teachings” also.

It is factually easier for Non-Catholic Christians to be “United” than it is for RC’s because at last count they have some thirty five thousand denominitial choices to choose from. And if they can’t find one they like, they can and may start a new sect.

This is not a slam! It points out the very reason why there is so much confussion about what to believe and why the teaching should be taught. For multiple reasons God’s Will is not clearly taught, and “your opinion is as valid as mine.” Might not be bibical, but it is “faith in action” isn’t it?

Catholics have two: Obey God or don’t oney God:thumbsup:

Gods continued blessings,

I suppose that depends upon whether or not they had an abortion. It would seem to me that two out of three of these would have real trouble with that. 😉

The men would be culpable if they facilitated in this sin.

But it is against the forum rules to discuss individual politicians, I understand. We could open a thread on politicians and abortion, if there is not one already running, which there probably is. Is there a reason you are motivated to derail this thread for that topic?

:okpeople: Pls read the writing imediatelly above your question, jk4: the Act of abortion causes immediate excommunication. Doing the Abortion.

the penalty also applies to those who also participate in the sin, however, by material, financial, or counselling assistance. 😊

Yes, this is true. A mortal sin is characterized by grave matter (taking innocent life) along with full knowledge and consent. An abortion is still a sin, even if people who do it are misinformed but their culpability is less.

bragging about it certainly is not necessary in order for it to be a sin, but bragging about committing any sin is still grievious.

What has any of this got to do with SS?

Well, once again JA4 has ignored my post (#532).

He claims he bases his idea that scripture is the sole rule of faith upon facts. Since that’s his claim, he must know what these “facts” are.

I’m still waiting to see these “facts.”
Let’s go through this one at a time:

Is it a fact that the Scriptures alone are inspired-inerrant?

Pls see postings #573 and 583.
It’s a spinoff on Church Authority from the Bible. The Issue involved is excommunication, not mortal sin, which is the minimal result of any voluntary involvement on Abortion.

There are over 500 posts on this thread some with excellent answers to your questions. As I have said before you keep asking the same question - like a broken gramaphone needle!!!

I have been trying to understand you:banghead: :whacky:

Can you assist me? Why do you keep asking the same questions? Have you taken note of the books I recommended? FOUR WITNESSES and Patrick Madrid’s Where is that in the Bible? “Answer me this” etc? because if you want an expanded answer you will find them in those books.

You sound like another poster I came across - perhaps you have just changed your name:) :extrahappy: :yup: :rotfl:

The ja4 cadre may be busy today, so let me post the “facts” according to ja4:

My belief comes from a lot of study and understanding the nature of the Scriptures. Not just this but what others have also concluded.

There is no ‘revelation’ from God on this and a number of other things we believe.
These are the 'facts". 😉

No, I don’t think so. The justasking4 username is shared by a group of anti-Catholic, sola scriptura, largely uneducated, bible fundamentalists.

Although I think that some of them have learned a great deal here, their goal from the beginning has been not to learn, but to convert Catholics into “bible” or “true” christians.

Do not be discouraged, though, since there are often 10 times more lurkers than there are posters. ja4 often is the mouthpiece for many that suffer from the same errors and lies. Your answers may reach many, and you will have character development!

You are the one who claims they are. You further claim you base this upon facts. I’m asking what facts you base this upon.

Since you claim you base it upon facts, you must already know what those facts are. It should, therefore, be a simple matter for you to list those facts. So, what are they? Why won’t you just tell me? Why are you asking me questions when you can simply just tell me these facts you must already know?

snip…
The Catholics will tell you that we believe it means that the Bible is the only source of authority, but this is not true.

We also accept the authority of the church (just not their particular branch of the church), the creeds and confessions of Christianity, and tradition, among other things.

We believe that each of these is a valid source of doctrine and pratice. We just believe that they are to defer to the authority of God’s word and are valid only inasmuch as they are in agreement with God’s word.
Who are “we”? I’ll bet it’s not the Southern Baptists that reside in my area of south Alabama…

You are the one who claims they are. You further claim you base this upon facts.
Is this not a fact that your church also would agree with? If not, is there something else in the church that is also inspired-inerrant?
I’m asking what facts you base this upon.
This was settled centuries ago when the church determined which books of the NT were inspired-inerrant based on a number of “tests”.
Since you claim you base it upon facts, you must already know what those facts are. It should, therefore, be a simple matter for you to list those facts. So, what are they? It is the details that many are not quite grasping and it is essential to know these details if we are to come to a proper understanding of Sola Scriptura.

Sometimes the same questions are asked for different posters. I deal with each poster separately and assume very little about them.

I can look at the books you recommend later if need be. Right now we are having a discussion and if the material from those books helps you then bring some of the points to the table for discussion.
