I have never met a protestant who believes they are infallible. I can only imagine the reaction of their fellow church members if they were to say something like that.
Can you say “Excommunication”??😃

Infallible is a Catholic word, so of course they would deny it. But the fact remains that they consider the inspiration given to them directly from the Holy Spirit to be absolutely correct.

That’s true but the sad part is: you have fellow protestants going against each other’s interpretations, on top of their anti-Catholic beliefs.

Cases in point:

The same Scripture which led Luther to believe that Christ is really present “in, with and under” the bread and wine is the same Scripture that which persuaded Zwingli that Christ is only spiritually present in the sacrament. The Anabaptists, who denied the validity of infant baptism, read the same Bible as the Calvinists, Lutherans and anglicans who retained infant baptism.

The same revisionist approach of Protestantism to historical antecedents of the Catholic magisterium is the same thing that leads to misunderstanding even as to the original teachings of Protestant Reformers about the Bible as the single rule of faith.

Sad, is it or isn’t it?

Is the bible the single rule of faith?
I think it is a dual rule one with Jesus and the Body , His Church .
The two great commands from him .

And what is sadder that those who don’t love one another as themselves but love themselves to be god, are the Jim Jones type that do act like they are their own pope and swing the bible and lead people not to salvaation but their death and that is so sad I can’t talk of it anymore sorry!

Yep, that’s why I’m catholic now, It took me so long to realise what jesus said when he was talking about “false prophets and false christs”… this was actually a commandment to let him speak for himself, I.e Just sit and listen to what he has to say through the bible readings followed by a short and sharp contextualizing “Homily” which only serves to clarify the reading, and not sit through 2 hours of some Pastor going on about “becoming rooted in the ground so you can give better”(i.e Prosperity Gospel and anti-catholicism) which had nothing to do with Christ.

I suddenly realized, ****, the only church I’ll actually learn about Jesus teachings IN HIS OWN WORDS(at least as they were written down by the authors of the 4 gospels), is the Catholic Church! I thought “well, that’s it. Better convert!”.

No w I suppose a non-C will argue that some of them may have been ‘saved’, but I can’t understand how the CAF can let this discussion go on as the op seems to be insulting the sola people and the Pope out of context. at the same time.

If religious revelation is by the Bible alone, then that makes everyone that believes in Sola Scriptura to be their own personal, infallible, “pope”.

Discuss.
This is baloney. Plainly not so although I do not believe in sola scriptura. I do not believe that Pontificus Maximus is infallible or in authority over all believers either.

On the one hand, Catholicism’s infallible pope is less free to interpret Scripture than an individual Sola Scriptura Protestant is. The Pope interprets scripture under the guidance of Sacred Tradition and the teachings of the Magisterium going back to the Apostles – and, of course, the authority of all these, of Sacred Tradition, of the Magisterium, of the Pope, and of Scripture has been informed by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

On the other hand, in spite of what an SS Protestant may be willing to admit to himself, no one comes to the reading of scripture without an interpretative lens from an authority outside himself, such as the authors of the extensive commentaries that festoon each page of many Protestant Bibles (such as the Scofield). Ironically, those interpretative lens include many, even in the case of some sects, a majority, of ideas inherited from Catholic teaching.
