It’s not “what’s the ‘minimun’ I have to do?”,

it’s:

“What’s the ‘MAXIMUM’ I have to do?”

Jesus said not to focus on Mary (or worldly things) but to focus on God and His Word and obeying Him.

You make it so hard. It’s like giving a severly hurt accident victum the hospital paperwork to fill out BEFORE you get him out of the twisted metal that was once his car.

It takes real effort to miss the point like that. Wow.

Minimum, maximum–I’m not sure there’s a difference. Because both don’t ask the most important question–what is true?

Jesus never said not to “focus on” Mary, by the way. He never said, “By the way, just go ahead and ignore this incubator of no particular consequence. Try not to make any comparisons between her and the other arks of the Covenant…”

Kujo,

Please refer to the myriad Mary threads here, or any article in the Catholic.com library for explanations of our beliefs. Then come back with something a little more advanced than this entry-level anti-Catholicism.

We believe that she was a fine woman, because God chose her for a very special task which would bring her to prominence and cause her to be held up as an example. There is, however, no reason to believe that she was conceived without sin, because after the birth of Christ we find her in the temple offering a sacrifice for her purification (Luke 2:22-24). This is the same action that all the Hebrew women took after childbirth (Leviticus 12). In addition, in her prayer of thanksgiving for being chosen to be the mother of Christ, Mary calls God my Savior (Luke 1:47). Had she been born without sin, she would not have needed either an offering for purification, or a savior.
History informs us that prayers to Mary began around the end of the fourth century after Christ. Certainly if she had still been alive she would not have permitted this practice! As a pious woman, she would never have accepted prayer, as it should be directed to God alone.

If it’s “anti-Catholic”, I’m not going to apologize. It’s the Truth, straight from God’s Word. I think it overrides all human traditions.

MM,

That is a good poinit. I haven’t thought about it in those terms. Folks like Kujo basically are saying- “what is the minimum I have to do to be ‘saved’.” You know, that kind of work ethic does not go very far. In fact, it seems downright opposed to Christ’s teachings- take up your cross, give up what you have, obey all of the commandments, eat my flesh, drink my blood, be baptised, etc. etc…There IS more to it than saying a “sinners prayer” and viola- now I am saved. “Work out your salvation with fear and trembling.”!!!
Wow! If that doesn’t sound like: the kettle calling the pot black. The Catholic church has watered down the Word so much that it made the way to Heaven a ten lane express way. Go ahead sin all you need to do is say your sorry. Go ahead store up for your future that is just being wise. You have a right to defend yourself, when some one hits you, hit them back harder. War is OK for the world and you are part of the world so go ahead and fight in the war. You have all that money saved so you should charge interest when you loan it to someone even if it is a brother, just don’t make the interest too high. Go ahead priest have sex with boys, girls, etc we will just send you to a different parish and you can start all over.

Too much of the Catholic “Mary” is like the goddess Isis. There are too many simularities.
:rotfl:
The true Mary knew that she, herself, needed a Savior.
No duh, Sherlock. Of course she did. The Church has always taught this except in your fantasy land.

My, oh, my. That doesn’t even deserve a response it’s so full of lies.

There is, however, no reason to believe that she was conceived without sin,
Wrong-o, Kuj-o.

When the angel addresses Mary, he says, “Hail, kecharitomene.” Usually, a person’s name follows “Hail” but in this case it was “full of grace.” In other words, he used it as a title.

But more importantly, the word used there implies a fullness from the past through the future. Being “full of grace,” (not like that abomination “highly favored”) therefore implies that there was no sin. Because to be “full” of grace is to be “empty” of sin. Sin and grace can’t coexist.

So, disagree with the Bible if you want, there most certainly is reason to believe she was conceived without sin.

As for Mary needing a savior, we’ve always believed that. But who’s to say the efficacy of Christ’s sacrifice wasn’t applied at her conception? If a person is “saved” from falling into the pit (of original sin) BEFORE they step over the edge, is that not still salvation?

But whatever–go ahead and keep working to diminish the mother of God. We, however, will call her blessed and celebrate her until the end of time.

Well, that’s a wrap people. 1000 posts and no proof for sola Scriptura. No surprise here. However, there was quite a bit of elementary anti-Catholic preaching from those who recycled the same old lies for many days. I suppose ignorance is bliss.

Over and out!
