If this doctrine is correct…then doesn’t that mean the Holy Spirit is doing an awful job helping people interpret the Bible themselves? I mean so many diff. denominations and beliefs and a great deal all claim the Spirit has guided them to interpret scripture this or that way! How do most Protestants defend this?

  1. By misquoting (out of context) a passage from the NT.
  2. By ignoring all accepted (prior to 1520) early Patristic writers on the subject of Tradition and scriptural interpretation (including the Orthodox Churches).
  3. By ignoring the other, more numerous NT quotations warning against personal interpretation.
  4. By the false analogy of Catholics explaining what a passage means as proof that Catholics “personally interpret” scripture.
  5. By ignoring all Scriptural references on accepted Catholic doctrines and dogma.
  6. By using the ‘textus receptus’ (a Jewish redaction of the Septuagint in 90 AD at Jamnia) as their ‘original manuscript.’
And understand a very important point:

To give up this man-made, scripturally defying ‘doctrine,’ a believer in SS would have to call in to question his or her belief in the Rapture, Dispensationalism, Jesus as Personal Savior, Salvation by Faith Alone, and other 18th and 19th century inventions of third and fourth generation Protestant spin off denominations.

That’s a hard pill to swallow.

What’s even worse for Protestants is that none of them can have the slightest confidence that the Holy Spirit has revealed the truth to them, rather than to those other Protestants who find substantially different beliefs in the bible. One of the inevitable results of rejecting the teaching authority of the Church in favor of SS is permanent and unavoidable doubt that one has actually been guided by the Holy Spirit.

:crying: SOLA-SCRIPTURA AGAIN ?!?!?!?!:crying:

Is SS a no no in these forums?
It’s not a “no-no”, I was being a little facetious. But, none the less, the threads on SS tend to be inexhaustable and can go on and on and on and on (to the point where I almost personally avoid threads on SS like the plague). carry on…LOL
