Solemn High Mass
for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
in the Classical Roman Rite

Celebrated by Fr. Vianney Le Roux (FSSP) assisted by Abbé Guillaume Loddé as Deacon and Abbé Réal Bleau as Subdeacon. The homily will be given in English and French. Mass will be preceded by Confession at 5:00, and the Latin Rosary in thanksgiving for Summorum Pontificum & the Angelus at 5:30. All are invited to come offer adoration, thanksgiving, and prayer to Almighty God, Who upon the altar of sacrifice takes away the sins of the world.

Many thanks to Jon (Caesar), who was most gracious in helping me get this off the ground. Deo Gratias!

I thought I heard something the other day about some Canadian Bishops not allowing the TLM and snubbing their noses at the MP. Maybe I misread. 🤷

Catholic Dude: There are over 70 dioceses in Canada. If some bishops have “snubbed” the MP that hardly means all have. Certainly here in Vancouver the TLM has been celebrated for years already.

Notre Dame in Montreal is the most beautiful Church that I have ever seen. It is nice to see posts about the activity there.

I dont think anything from the Canadian bishops collectively has been issued on Summorum Pontificum. Most of the bishops here are less then orthodox, and the vast majority of them havent said a peep on the issue of the Motu Proprio. However the Archdioceses of Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa (staffed with recently-appointed, and quite orthodox, Archbishops) have all issued rather positive statements. Montreal still remains “tres moderniste”, and there is but one regular Tridentine Mass, celebrated at a Romanian parish by an old diocesan priest. We met not small amount of resistance and stonewalling from pastors in our search for a venue for this Solemn Mass.

There are many churches named “Notre Dame” in Montreal. You are probably thinking of Notre Dame Basilica, or Notre Dame de Bonsecours chapel. This Mass is at Notre Dame de la Defense, an Italian parish built in the 1920s (there is a fresco of Mussolini in the cupola).

I thought I read something about the other side of Canada, Ontario or something…I must be mistaking about my original story. :o

There was a fairly recent article in a Montreal newspaper that quoted a priest representing the diocese who said that there was no desire amongst anyone in the diocese for the return of the old Mass.

Thats odd considering the above.

OK, we need to put this to rest. There is a mural above the sanctuary depicting a series of historical events, but especially the Lateran Accord of 1929. The central figure in the mural is the pope (presumably Pius XI) seated on his throne, wearing the papal tiara. Mussolini is, unfortunately, shown as well–though, fortunately, he is placed to the side.

They interviewed some odd-ball priest. But he wasn’t entirely wrong. Our generation is only just beginning to wake up to tradition. Its only a matter of time though.
