My Church is doing a Solemn High Mass Messe Solennelle - Vierne. The Priest sent this video out showing what the Mass will be like

Really excited to see what our new 1 million dollar organ can do.

Wow a million dollar organ, bet it’ll sound fantastic! Tell us how it goes I’ve sadly never had the chance to go to a solemn high mass :’(

5 minutes for a Kyrie? Sheesh! All in proper proportion. It’s the “music in the Mass” not “the Mass in the music.”

While I am a HUGE devotee of polyphonic pieces, there are some out there that are just totally inappropriate for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It should move (like Gregorian chant) and not become so lengthy that it draws too much attention to itself.

Lest someone accuse me of being a trendy lib, I want to make sure people understand: I started a men’s Gregorian chant group in our town, and we are enjoying our 6th year. We sing chant, polyphony, and try to include Latin in as many parts of the Ordinary of the Mass and Divine Office whenever we visit parishes for liturgical events.

But to spend 5 minutes on an Ordinary part of the Mass that, were it chanted, would only last 45 seconds tops, is a* concert*.

Is five minutes too much for God or for the faithful to reflect on the fact that we are asking God for mercy?

Having said that, I’m not too crazy about that piece for the Kyrie, but I don’t go by that whole philosophy of a beautiful piece of music drawing attention to itself.

P.S. That organ is loud!

I love it when the Pipe organ rattles the fillings in my teeth. We only get that once a month when we go up for the High Mass.

I like this Kyrie the most:

Edit: In fact, I love the Mass on the video so much I have the entire series downloaded, and I had it converted to MP3 to listen every single day on my MP3 player while on the trampoline. I pretend to be the main server. 😃
You’ll love it I reckon!

You belong to a fortunate parish…enjoy the high mass.

No, it would not last “45 seconds tops.” Not even a sixfold Kyrie, as found in the OF, would be that quick, so say nothing of the ninefold Kyrie in the EF.

That’s my favorite mass on Youtube. This mass is celebrated in an SSPX parish by the way.

The FSSP parish I attend tends to use Kyrie XI, which I like too.

Yah it’s SSPX. Celebrated in 1998, and the celebrant is now the district superior of SSPX South America. I have watched that Mass just about every week for the past 12 months at least. I hope I’m not insane.

We have a Solemn High Mass for the Feast of Saint Pius X on the 3rd. Or we should be… you see the vestments for the deacon and sub-deacon have went walkies from the sacristy :D!

This was the first traditional Latin Mass I saw on you tube and I knew I had to attend one in real life.👍
