Solemn Novus Ordo Mass

Has anyone ever heard of a Solemn Novus Ordo Mass. Apparently it’s just like a Traditional Latin Mass only in English, but the consecration is still in Latin. I have heard of this type of Mass but cannot seem to find any Parish that celebrates It. I was wondering if anyone else had heard of it, knew anything about it, and knew where one was celebrated. I live in the Washington D.C. area so if anyone knows of a solemn Novus Ordo Mass around the D.C. area I would love to know about it. Thank you very much.

The rubrics of the OF Mass allow for an extremely solemn celebration of the Mass – easily as solemn as the Pontifical EF Mass – just look at some of the Pope’s Masses he celebrates today. Any or all parts (except the readings) may be in Latin. Around here very often the Words of Institution are in Latin while the rest of the Mass in in the vernacular.

If you want to attend a “solemn” OF Mass and you are in DC I would suggest the National Shrine. [edited]

First, if the Mass is the EF Mass then it’s not the OF Mass.

Why do so many people call it the Novus Ordo if that’s not what it is?

The Solemn Latin Mass (aka OF Mass in latin) is indeed different than the Traditional Latin Mass, not the same. The prayers are different or at best, in some cases, similar.

There is a Solemn Latin Mass (OF) in Portland, OR every Saturday evening at 7:30 pm I believe. Portland folks are very lucky as they have a “World-class” Schola in Cantores in Ecclesia.

But even if all the Propers and Ordinaries are chanted, its still different. I have been to a fair number of them. Yes, they are beautiful but…
