My son goes to a catholic school in a monastery. He has become very close friends to one of the young novices (he’s to become confirmation sponsor for my son, too). This young person is about to take his solemn vows, and invited us to participate. I’m deeply touched, and anticipate this will be a very special moment for all of us. It’s the first time I’m going to visit such celebration, and I wonder what one says to the new monk after the ceremony? Is it appropriate to congratulate him? Shall we bring a small gift (like a cross made by my son, or a rosary we made together)? He will certainly want to spend some time with his parents and family, but will we even be able to tell a few words to him?
