Is there a term for solipsism with a belief in God? Please explain.
It seems like it would be a contradiction to solipsism to have a belief in another being, even if the Being were God.Is there a term for solipsism with a belief in God? Please explain.
It almost dips into the idea of patheism, nothing but God and self. I’m trying to find the correct term. ThanksIt seems like it would be a contradiction to solipsism to have a belief in another being, even if the Being were God.
Well if you don’t want discussion on what you proposed, then the answer is simply;Why would I argue when I can just hit the ignore button and poof, you don’t exsisit anymore.?![]()
Main Entry: so·lip·sism
Pronunciation: \ˈsō-ləp-ˌsi-zəm, ˈsä-
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin solus alone + ipse self
Date: 1874
: a theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing; also : extreme egocentrism
I proposed nothing, just simply asked a question. ****ers always looking for a fight. Solipsism is the internets silenced pistol. Zap, your gone.lolWell if you don’t want discussion on what you proposed, then the answer is simply;
No!
The explanation is simply;
Good answer!! One worth pondering. I’ve looked into the theory’s behind ID, ego, superego and it is largely based in vanity. Hell, even seeing your own words reflected of the forums of CAF is a form of vanity, but solipisism is ego on the extreme.TOP, you said you were looking for a word that covered the situation of being a solipisist and believing in God…
Would the word “vanity” cover it? If someone believes that they are the only being out there, but believes in God, maybe they are vain.
Just a thought…![]()
No, TOP, it is not wacked at all. C.S.Lewis wrote a triology of books on the subject, which I am in the middle of reading. Perelandra is the second in the three. I think you would enjoy it, if you haven’t already read it.Good answer!! One worth pondering. I’ve looked into the theory’s behind ID, ego, superego and it is largely based in vanity. What I propose is that there are other beings, created by God, each in a personal journey to bring that soul to Him, but not in the same way or even exsistance. Pretty wacked, huh.
I do understand what you are talking about as far as the ptsd. Been there, done that, still coping with it. It does make the rest of the world a little out of kilter. Just another cross to bear, I guess.Thanks. Jesus did say, what you do to others, you do to me. People become a veil in a way. I can’t put my finger on it, but something is off in this world, almost unreal. There’s a term called dissassociation in which people with ptsd have such a life altering experience and their perception is so drastically changed, they have to learn to cope in their new exsistance. I don’t want to get any deeper then that, but who are the angels and devils in this world, designed by God to get the soul to it’s final destination. Just some idea’s. I would like to look into those books.
That is one of the reasons I am a believer in the Catholic Faith. The Church presents an objective Truth which never changes. All the “world” can change and waver, and go back and forth in what it wants to call “truth”, but it is all relative to what the “world” wants at the moment. The Truth never changes.Something interesting. St. John Bosco had a dream/vision of the eternal state of his boy’s he was teaching. He saw some tumble into the bronze gates of hell, but it is said he never lost a boy, one becoming a Saint. Eternal exsistance as compared to our perception of our own state doesn’t always mesh. And perception is subjective, but believers agree their is an objective truth, at least I believe in an objective truth, more so then in peoples subjective perception, which may be their own journey, even detached to an individual exsistance. Hmmm. Just tinkering with the membrane.
You have brought up a great subject, TOP. Let me think on this for a bit. I don’t want you to think I am ignoring you, I just need some time to think. Solipsism is a new subject for me.In the passion of the Christ, Pilate asked his wife, what is truth?. She said, if you don’t know, I can’t tell you. He had just questioned Christ and after he was done, facing Truth incarnate, he still didn’t know. Makes you wonder if Calvin was right about predestination and the passage that says, those who hear my voice…they are mine and recognise my voice…, but what of those who don’t hear. In justice, they must have some chance in their subjective reality formed in this world. It is easier to question the world and it’s inhabitants then objective truth as Pilate did questioning his wife. It is easier to deny the creature then the creator, thus making solipsism an easy out for a believer. Know what I mean?
I actually like that quote. Sounds like something Gen. Patton might have said.What got me thinking about this again was the other night, I was watching Gladiator on TBS. They where pantheist, I think and before contest, the slave owner would say to the fighter, we are but shadows and dust. The general joked before battle, that if you find yourself in green fields with the sun of your face, do not be troubled, because you are in alesim and are already dead. I thought that was funny.
lol, you know Patton thought he was Ceaser reborn or was it Alexander the Great. I guess that’s one coping skill.I actually like that quote. Sounds like something Gen. Patton might have said.
