The Services for Dead for Aleksandr Soljenitsyn, famous Russian nobel writer, historian and prophet will be held August 6, 2008 at Donskoi Men’s monastery in Moskow. Will be making services Archbishop Aleksij vicar for Moscow at request of Patriarch Aleksij.

Solzhenitsyn is definitely one of my favorite authors. His death saddens me greatly. May he rest in peace, and may all those who mourn him be comforted.
 
The band on his forehead is called a “mitra”. It’s a token symbolic crown with the Trisagion inscribed on it: Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immmortal, have mercy on us.

White is the traditional color for funerals in the Great Russian tradition. (It’s not Transfiguration yet on the Orthodox Old Calendar.)
