Sollicitudo Rei Socialis... did it work?

I’m writing a brief article on the Sollicitudo Rei Socialis in my Social Justice class. One factor is whether it worked… whether it sparked any development in the world or Church?

Did it? I can’t find any resources.

My Pastor was in El Salvador for thirty some years. I will see him tomorrow and ask him what he thinks. He’s very bookish so I’m sure he’ll have some kind of resource.

I’ve tried to find the answer myself by looking at major events in the decade following the publishing of the encyclical. There were no major crises for six years (except for Tiananmen Square). Could that be evidence of something?

This is a group project and my peers want to have my article for formatting at the latest, by tomorrow.
