One of the professors down the hall from my office had done a marvelously thoroughly researched and lengthy . . . superbly scholarly paper . . . sometime back in preparation for a doctorate degree . . . (which had actually been very well received and had been published and sold very well) . . . on the . . . incredibly evil epidemic of internet predators . . . as a . . . phenomenon of today’s age . . . and its dangerous and deadly effects on our society today . . . and in particular . . . highlighted in the paper . . . was the effect of this deadly predatory behavior of mankind on multitudes of marriages and families . . . and the havoc and destruction and tragic end of so many of same . . .

As we discussed the possibility of formulating this doctoral paper into a Summer Session Course . . . which we all agreed might prove to be very helpful and beneficial in today’s society . . . and which class we all felt would probably be very well received and attended . . . as we discussed the formulation of the material for the class . . . the awareness grew that . . . every single member of our University staff gathered together for the meeting. . . knew someone personally . . . myself included . . . whose family had been utterly destroyed . . . and whose lives had been tragically damaged, harmed and changed because of this pernicious evil . . . and it is a fact that these internet contacts often begin with “supposedly innocent” questions . . . in “supposedly benevolent forums” . . . exactly like

Let’s slow down here, because I believe there is a major misunderstanding going on here. If I’m understanding your response, you’re understanding is that Br. David is a predator in disguise or did I get that wrong?

Maybe I lost something here; but I don’t see anything in what Br. David wrote that would make him a predator. What did you see that I may have missed?

I did see Br. David ask for feedback. He asked what is so confidential in the suggestions that he made. Some people did give him feedback. Some people said that you must be very careful how much and what you share on the internet. But I didn’t get the impression that the response bothered Brother.

That being said, he posted to you that he is not understanding your posts. But there is nothing wrong with that statement either. You could have just clarified what you’re trying to say. It may help if you leave out all the colors and quotes, because they are distracting. You may simply want to explain what you’re talking about in plain black and white font with plain English and pick up the conversation from there to clarify any further misunderstanding.

I hope that everyone will think about this more carefully.

Br. JR was elaborating on the different types of religious… “set-ups”. There are people who are rightly called Dominicans who are under various “set-ups”. The Major Order of Dominicans is the Order of Preachers, which is open only to men. The Major Order of Franciscans is the Order of Friars Minor, which is open only to men. Etc. There are, of course, many groups of the Dominican or Franciscan (etc.) spirituality and tradition who are rightly referred to as Franciscans or Dominicans but are not Major Orders… such as all of the ones that include females.

I especially want to echo Sr Rose: This is a forum. All advice should be given as generally as possible and taken with a shaker of salt. As is pointed out, very few of us are vocation directors, and an internet forum in not the place for real formation in either case.

Absolutely and completely correct. This is an internet forum. You can’t assume that anyone is who they say they are, or that what they say is, in fact, the case. There is a lot of misinformation on this forum, in general. It’s best taken with a grain of salt. Verify things you read on these CAF forums before you accept them as the truth.

And giving a lot of personal information isn’t a good idea. Be careful out there.
